You said you could see yourself "going back to it if it's still getting good reviews". That more than strongly implies you won't continue to watch future episodes unless the series reviews well.

My point being you could just continue to watch them. :)

Oh I see what you mean. Well I just feel totally out of step on this one. I genuinely, genuinely fully expected to come into this thread and everyone to be giving it a good kicking and now I'm baffled. I feel like I should re-watch the episodes I've already seen to try and work out what I missed.

Watched the first two eps, I enjoyed it, but was pretty disappointed in the almost complete lack of Twin Peaksy soapiness. Hopefully the bit at the end with the Bang Bang Bar portents a return to that stuff in later episodes.

Still, Angelo Badalamenti must have a rough life, eh?

You'll enjoy Wally Brando.

I'd forgotten how short S1 of this was (7 episodes and the lengthy pilot) - it just seems to really get going and then it's over.

Turned it off. I suppose you need to be a fan. Rambling conversations and quirky characters clearly doesn't do it for me.

I'm really enjoying everything about this 4 episodes except the Twin Peaks scenes. It's like we're getting an awesome new David Lynch movie, filled with new visionary nightmares... but then every 30 minutes it must cut to a sad, embarrassing, pointless cast reunion of Twin Peaks.

I'll keep watching, because many of the scenes in these episodes are providing 'water cooler' moments for everyone on the internet to talk about. But it's a strange viewing experience - many of the rules of television are thrown out of the window. There's very little pace or structure to hold on to. Lynch is doing whatever the fuck he wants, and I'm not totally sure he isn't just pulling an epic troll.

Is Sheriff Truman just a recast?

To the latter...

Spoiler

No, it's his brother, Frank. Hence Lucy asking the insurance salesman which Sheriff Truman he's looking for because "one is sick and the other one's fishing", and Wally offering his best wishes for Harry Truman.

The actor who played Harry has retired from acting and lives in Hawaii. He couldn't be arsed.

Yeah I heard that before watching, but is this Sheriff Truman or the brother as some are saying?

I've just finished episode 4 and all I can say is

Spoiler

it's wonderful to have Twin Peaks back.   The horror mixed with the absurd has just never been done better.   Cooper in Dougie's green suit was perfect.

I have a question.  The guy who grabs Cooper in the casino; is that the same man who was giving money to someone in episode 3?  He said something like 'Tell her she's got the job!'.

I got the impression that this is also the billionaire who is paying people to watch the glass box.

Yes! And the most old school Twin Peaks moment by far I thought.

He isn't exactly recast, he plays his brother Frank. I do like the poetry of Forster being the original choice to play Truman in the first seasons.

Also love how Lynch decided to replace Michael Anderson (after talking shit about Lynch and not wanting to do anything with him anymore) with a weird electrified, talking tree.

Put down 3 and 4 tonight. So much weird, so much greatness.

Except THAT cameo, which starts of with a chuckle then goes on and on until it feels like an uncomfortable Saturday Night Live skit and breaks the episode in half. Luckily the incredibly creepy interview scene shortly afterwards more than makes up for it.

Nice to see that

Really interesting interview with David Lynch here, in which he's surprisingly open about what's been and offers a carrot or two about what's up next.

Interview.

I can only read Lynch's responses in the voice of Gordon Cole.   It fits perfectly.

Just caught up with this, completely blown away.  I'm very glad I re-watched the end of series 2 and FWWM beforehand.

Spoiler

I LOVED the scenes in the casino. I've been giggling for hours thinking about it. Kyle MacLachlan's comedy performance has been outstanding so far.

Also, double meanings galore as per most Lynch. Did know one else think that the Dougie Jones "You were manufactured for a purpose" lodge scene was a massive nod to the plot convenience of the character, magic green ring and all? That got a huge laugh from me. (as he withered away, nightmarishly)

Haven't seen TP since the early 90s. Watched 1 and 2 of this series. Have absolutely no idea what's going on. I'm sure I'm missing loads of the text, never mind the subtext. Felt no emotional reaction or engagement with any of it. But I'll carry on and see where it goes.

I have watched all of TP and FWWM in the last month or so. Still very confused by what is going on here.

Do we still need to spoiler original series/ first 4 episodes discussions ? Just to be safe ..,

Questions based on Eps 1-4 as well as TP and FWWM -

Clippa's synopsis a couple of pages back was spot on I think, I didn't pick up all of it myself - for example where was it shown that the "false" Cooper was created by evil Cooper? Makes complete sense but I missed the bit of the show that explained this, probably. How was he "created" exactly?

Why is he super-lucky at the casino? Was this explained at all?

And regarding TP/FWWM -

What exactly is the significance of David Bowie's character - we know he appears/disappears but how does this tie in with what's going on in TP?

Mike (one armed man) straight up says that Dougie was created for a purpose. Black Lodge spirits seem to travel via electrity (see FWWM). Evil Coop is desperately trying to avoid getting sucked into the electrical inlet in his car (lots and lots of shots of it). Because he manages to hold on long enough Dougie gets pulled into the Black Lodge instead of him and Coop comes out of the plug socket. I think there was also more dialogue later on when Coop has the vision of Mile explaining it. We don't know the process of how he was created and we may well never know. But we're dealing with weird demons/spirits/ghosts/aliens or whatever the inhabitants of the Black Lodge are.

He's lucky at the casino because the he's getting signals from the Lodge on which machines to use. They even appear video game marker style with a little bit of red curtain and zigzag floor.

Philip Jeffries was an FBI agent who disappeared (presumably on one of Cole's blue rose cases). All we know about him is that he was at a meeting of Lodge spirits that took place above a convenience store, he has a really wonky southern accent and doesn't want to talk about someone called Judy. In FWWM Missing Pieces it shows he was in Buenos Aries before transporting to the FBI office in Philadelphia and the he gets zapped back there immediately after.

Will those us who gorged on eps 3 and 4 last week be getting any new Twin Peaks tomorrow?
