The Beer Thread

I’m currently working my way through a mixed case from my favourite Sheffield brewery - Neepsend Brewery. They’re a bit unknown outside of Sheffield as traditionally they were cask-led and they run 3 pubs as their tap houses. Pre-lockdown I used to do the pub quiz at one of their venues every week.

They mainly specialise in hazy pales which is my kind of thing and with a relocation and COVID they’ve started canning beers. Their online shop is here: https://neepsendbrewco.com/shop/

I’m loving the ones I’ve had so far from this batch. Bought a t-shirt from them as well because why not?

In other beer related news, Brewdog sent me an email about the cancelled 2020 agm. They are offering a 20 quid refund for each ticket (as we all paid) or 30 pounds in Brewdog online shop credit. I had 2 tickets so that's effectively a bonus 20 quid of beer for nowt! Pity I just put in an order last week, but it won't go amiss!

Stocked up the other day. Had my first Arbor the other weekend and enjoyed them and they had a decent deal on direct from the brewery.

The 12 pack usually comes with a stout but I'm not a fan of stouts, porters etc so mailed them and they very kindly swapped it out for another NEIPA.

Looking forward to trying some of these over the next few weeks.

Oooh, I ordered 2 different 12 packs from them a couple of months ago and really enjoyed them.  Both were 4 different beers but there was a little overlap between the two cases.  Really tempted to get a couple of those 'all different' 12 packs now.

It has NOTHING to do with the cans being pint sized either :eyebrows:

Trillium has been going for crazy money this past week.

The Cloudwater pack was the only decent price.

I was disappointed with the Other Half pack a few weeks back, all it proved to me was that the UK had plenty of brewers on par with what the US is doing.

Yeah, I passed on the Trillium's being sold on by retailers as I'm not paying £15 for a can of IPA. Hoping for a few more Trillium on the CW store this week though, preferably darker or sour.

I quite enjoyed the OH pack. Space Diamonds and Space Dream were especially fine but, I agree, there are now a good few UK brewers who are getting very good at the hazy, hoppy, style which wasn't the case only a few years ago.

Got a generous tip-off on some Westvleteren 12. Might never be able to get hold of this again, but well worth it. Like a Rochefort 10 or St. Bernardus 12 but even deeper. Absolutely beautiful. I wouldn't say it's the 'world's best beer' to my tastes, but it's the best quad I've ever had.

I'm insanely jealous.

Anyone got any good Brett/ sour/ funky reccs? I'm trying to get out of an IPA rut.

It’s not that hard to get is it? My local bottle shop in the sticks usually has it in

I would say that it's definitely worth trying, but I wouldn't buy in bulk. If you can get 3 or 4 Rochefort 10 or St Bernardus 12 for the same money, that would be a much better proposition. It tastes rarefied, for sure, but it's not necessarily one you'd want very often. It's kind of like barrel-proof bourbon, the best stuff is absolutely fantastic, but you still wouldn't drink it regularly.

Give me an Urweisse, Aventinus Schneider Weisse, Gouden Carolus or Schlenkerla most of the year round. Save the Westvleteren for Christmas Day.

Are you sure? Isn’t it the beer the monks only sell three times a year and don’t allow you to resell to anyone else on pain of the wrath of God?

@lordscotland Personally never seen it before either in the flesh or at a reasonable price online so pretty happy to find some. You don't live opposite a Trappist monastery, do you? :D

Just had a quick scan on Google and can't find any in stock besides eBay. You must have a good local!

It’s not that big but it’s run by a Dutch guy who knows his stuff. Just had a look and he’s got the 8 as well at the moment.

I am so happy Neon Raptor have started brewing again - I've been working my way through their output now and they've all been astounding quality. I can see why their stuff sells out so quickly on their website now!

Ghost Twins and Run Simcoe Run being standouts as two of the best DIPAs I've had in quite some time.

I have a big order from Northern Monk coming this week, looking forward to trying some of their limited-run beers (I left out their main ones considering you can now get them in Tescos for cheaper than their own website!)

Oh damn, this is only available to collect. I might have to get "lost" on the way to the big B&Q and get a couple... https://www.overtonebrewing.com/product-page/deadend-brew-machine-x-overtone-heather-honey-saison

Sorry, wasn't trying to build suspense, i just forgot!

https://www.beautifulbeers.co.uk/beers-belgian-trappist.irc

Lots of excellent stuff in at the moment even if the categories are a bit unwieldy. On the news section its free delivery on orders over 45 ( i usually pick up)

I'm sure the 12 is in stock, there was a crate of them when i last went in just before lockdown 2 started...

I'm not associated with them but run by very nice people! support a local business that i hope can stick around!

Oh, and if you fancy something different, try the de vossen they stock. decent priced trappist style ales by a local brewery which are pretty good.

Have a look for their HBC 472 dry hopped stout as well. It's absolutely fantastic.
