Star Wars: Prequel Discussion Thread (aka: wtf were you thinking George?)

Recommended Posts

okay i don't know how to do that spoiler click thing, so if you don't want to read anything about Ep 3, this is your last chance not to......

this was blantently nicked from the force.net

READY...here we go then:

The first half of trailer consists of ... (begin spoilers - highlight to read) a familiar voice over with Alec Guinness. Fans will love to hear him speak his monologue to Luke from A New Hope about "Jedi Knights always being the guardians of peace." As we hear these familiar phrases, they've intercut shots from various Star Wars episodes, excluding Episode 3. Only when the monologue ends with "Vader was seduced by the dark side of the Force" about 40 seconds into the trailer do we see the face of Anakin. He is partly covered with dark hood, looking positively evil.

This is followed by the shot of erupting volcanoes, then some sort of volcanic field with crab-like creatures and then darkness, all accompanied by Vader breathing. Then the following is heard:

Sidious: "Lord Vader..."

Vader: "Yes?"

Sidious: "Rise."

Then we see Anakin in full Vader gear rising on some sort of operating table to which he is chained. The rising is slow and is intercut with shot of various Star Wars main characters. When the table has fully risen so that Vader is basically standing upright, the meatiest part of trailer begins, with many, many shots from Episode III. Most of them are very, very short - this will be something for freeze-frame fanatics to analyze.

The ones that stuck in my memory:

Dozens of Wookiees on some sort of floating platform.

Padme with signature Leia hairdo.

The Tri-Fighter, aka the precursor to the TIE fighter with three curving wings and guns mounted between each wing. They shoot red lasers.

The ARC Clonefigthter, aka the precursor to X-Wing, with three wings on each side.

A gigantic starship being sprayed by streams of something that looks like dense acid.

The trailer ends with the title "THE SAGA IS COMPLETE - MAY 2005" and ... (end spoilers) is about 100 seconds long.

That's one poor effort of a poster. Those floor tiles have copy-paste-blur wrote all over them. Look at the soft focus on Vader, it stars abruptly. This could have been knocked up better in Paint, using only keys and with the monitor turned off.

It was confirmed days ago that that 'poster' is a fake. Someone took a publicity shot and photshopped it a bit.

I saw pics of the tri fighter a while back - you'll be amazed at how utterly hideous it looks, a TIE cockpit with Jedi starfighter wings. Ugh. The Clone's X-Wing 'ancestor' is pretty ugly as well...

the 'trailer' on the special edition dvds is pretty good although theres not much footage and the brief glimps you get are against green screen. Certainly gets you eager for more.

Quite looking forward to it. This could be a very very good film.

Hope Lucas dont feck it up.

Never really understood the mass loathing of Hayden in the Anakin role myself. I thought he done alright as a temperamental young Jedi. I know am in the minority with that opinion though. :)

He has had some terrible dialogue to work with as well.

I think it has more to do with the horrible dialogue and corny romance that George worked into his movie than Hayden's acutal acting capabilities. Jake Lloyd is just terrible though. Probably the worst acting job ever.

did you ever watch that behind the scenes doc on the episode 1 dvd though - where they showed who they had found for the final three for anakin (jake lloyld was actually the best!!!).

is that really the best the casting director could muster? they were the best kids out there after a world wide search...

hayden aint atall bad actually. he just has horrible dialogue to work with. christ even ewen struggles with the crap lucas writes.

Jeez, is that true? I guess even my dick would've done a better acting job than Lloyd.

well if he's good in other stuff then i'll let him off, maybe.

his dialogue is rubbish but he just looks stiff and not interested on screen.

however it's the only thing i've seen him in.

That pic must be a fake.

He's standing in a Rebel Blockade runner, which proberly didn't exist.

i'm sure the pic is fake but according to other theforce.net spoliers the Tantive IV (the rebel blockade runner) is in Episode III

I don't think anyone expects Episode III to be in the same league as the original trilogy, but I'm fairly confident it'll be an entertaining action romp, as The Phantom Menace was in parts.

The blue screen fencing I saw on the Bonus Disc of the OT DVD boxset was quite exciting!
