PlayStation 5 stock alerts

Recommended Posts

Sorry, no stock alert. Unfortunately the news is that a bunch of UK retailers don't have any stock until the end of April, due to the semi-conductor shortage and the Suez adventure. This includes GAME and Argos. Also the word is that GAME won't be selling in-store once shops open due to the pandemic and the high demand.

I'm not sure how Sony could describe this console launch as anything other than 'a total fucking disaster'

All you need now is for those early units to develop some sort of cataclysmic fault and that's the icing on the cake.

It's already sold more than the Dreamcast, Wii U and Vita ever did.

It's selling faster than they can get them out.

Everyone is talking about it, despite there being next to no new games and substandard Backwards Compatibility.

How is this a failure? It's not much different to Apple limiting stock to keep hype up.

Dreamcast, Vita and Wii u? some benchmark....

But you are of course absolutely correct, it's been a roaring success. You still stand more chance of getting a dose of covid than getting a PS5. I guess things have moved on for the worse where a launch that has been handled incredibly badly, probably not since the launch of the saturn, yet is deemed by all to have been a massive success.

I'll now not part with any cash for one till gt7 releases. By which time I still think it'll be hard if not impoosible to walk into a shop and buy one. Who wins there? the consumer or Sony?

I’ll keep trying to get one, but at the moment my Series X is doing everything I need and then some. PS5 will be compulsory once PSVR2 appears I guess.

Do Sony win in this situation? Yes, demand is high which gives headlines, but this endless drip-feed of stock in the absence of any pre-order waiting list system just makes consumers annoyed. And in the meantime Microsoft will be hoovering up all my next-gen spending and getting me more invested in their ecosystem.

Are you in the Sony press team as that’s quite the spin.... it’s sold more than the wii u etc in the UK but not total numbers and it is a failure because if you can not meet demand you are losing sales and worse still losing sales to the competition as it currently is.

Both the PS4 and PS5 sold similar numbers (5.3m and 5.18m respectively) in the first 13 weeks on sale.

In what world does that mean the PS5 has had even a bad launch, never mind disastrous?

Bearing in mind the impact of Covid, it’s been a very successful launch - a victim of its own success, in fact, thanks to the insipid levels of scalping.

Except Covid has caused an increase in purchases in the electrical entertainment sector that’s never been seen before so to sell less than the launch of the PS4 is bad on every metric and worse still as we come out of restrictions the reasons to be stuck indoors lessen and disposable income directed elsewhere means you are unlikely to regain these sales.

Remember during 2020 Nintendo’s profits tripled during lockdowns due to Covid and Sony predicted less demand based on expected financial restraints and didn’t see this boom coming - decisions made last year have restricted their sales far more than supply of parts now as they’d panic demand not planned for.

Even the PR of ‘demand outstripping supply’ has become negative now but missing boom time has to hurt!

Yeah I’m sure heads will be rolling at Sony HQ any minute now...

Quite, they have already reported they will miss sales targets and earnings are due to get hit massively in the second quarter due to rising costs of components..

You laugh and appear to be ohh so witty but it’s happening already with studios being closed, Inability to find servers and no doubt profit warning hitting share prices.

But yeah, lol Sony don’t care - who wants money ehh!

Citation very needed. If they've sold 16 million PS5s then that's good going from the 5 million figure 6 weeks ago.
