Lockdown Musical A-Z Quiz Thread

Recommended Posts

Since working from home, I’ve been doing a weekly A-Z musical quiz for my workmates, and just thought might be good to share in here. I’ve got 5 of them already done, so will chuck a new one in every couple of days if people like/want them. The premise is simple, artists beginning with each letter of the alphabet, bonus (imaginary) points for the song title. First one here is more than a little on the easy side, as I hadn’t judged my audience at that stage...

Thanks man. there are a couple more there I could have guessed at had points been at stake. XTC, Queen and Zutons purely by the letter of the alphabet!

Arrgh, there are a few songs in there that sound so familiar but I can't match them to an artist! I think I can have a guess at who did B, but my mind's gone blank on F, G and W. :(

B L P Q R:

Spoiler

B - Boo Radleys? (One of those where I know the music but not the musician!) - EDIT: Just Googled the lyrics "don't go hoping for a miracle" and this answer is completely wrong
L - Lightning Seeds - Lucky You
P - Portishead - Glory Box
Q - Queens of the Stone Age (a guess based on how few Q bands there are)
R - Radiohead - Just

a2z4:

D is another one where I know so much of the song but can't think WHO DID IT! I'm going to kick myself when I see the answers.

V fits an album title I'm thinking of, but not the artist...

E F K P R U V X Z:

Spoiler

E - Electric Light Orchestra
F - Feeder? (A guess!)
G and H - Don't know but they both sound like they were used on the Kill Bill OST (along with Z)?
K - Kate Bush - James and the Cold Gun
P - Public Enemy
R - R.E.M. - At My Most Beautiful (I knew it was REM but had to check which song it was: my initial thought was Why Not Smile because I remembered it has the lyrics "I've found a way to make you smile")
U - U2 - I think the song is The Fly?
V - I'm going to guess Vjork, because these strings really sound like one of the tracks on the Bjork album Vulnicura. :P (Edit: I'm thinking of the last minute of Black Lake.) Did she sample them from someone else beginning with V?
X - X-Ray Spex
Z - Hmmm, I knew it's on the Kill Bill OST... something like "Zamfu" or "Zanfu"? *Googles it* - Ah, Zamfir!

Spoiler

F isn’t Feeder, I’m afraid. V isn’t Bjork, but it is a cover of a more well known band.

G and H aren’t from Kill Bill, though H was used as the theme tune for a great TV show :)

Otherwise, all spot on!
