My top 10 from personal experience of putting coins into those machines that have coin slots, controls and monitors all built into one unit - you know, an arcade machine;

Street Fighter II

OutRun

Star Wars

Super Hang-On

Daytona USA

SEGA Rally

Ridge Racer

Final Fight

Virtua Fighter 3

The King of Fighters '94

I left out Super Sprint like an idiot and want to say I feel ashamed.

Loved that game, remember seeing it in an Arcade and being so excited to play it.  Didn't put it on my list because I used to play it at home on my Atari all the time.

I had that in my list initially, but I was just so rubbish at it.  I could get much further in Space Ace, so have fonder memories of that now.

I actually completed it in the arcade on 1 credit and never did it since. it was like a zen moment, I was 13 and the crowd around me was insane, it was like id won the 100 metre final at the olympics when I got Daphne.

Ah fuck

my turn for fau pa, Star Wars. When that arrived at the arcade it was like my head had exploded, my mate got in quick and had first go, the crowd around him was epic and the sound turned right up, none of us could believe the speech from the film,  was reacting to the gameplay. My mate got right to the Death Star he was winning like a champ and the frenzy at fever pitch.

Ben said let go Luke and my idiot mate let go of the controls and crashed  at the end of the exhaust port. I don't think he ever got over the utter humiliation

Games that I spent a decent amount of time on in arcades (not all of which were necessarily great):

R-Type

Black Tiger

Operation Wolf/Thunderbolt

Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja

Ninja Warriors

Thunder Blade

Wonderboy in Monster Land

Shinobi

New Zealand Story

Mr Heli

I probably didn't get far in most of them TBH. Think I completed Bad Dudes and Operation Thunderbolt, but only after a number of credits.

R-Type is still amazing.

OutRun 2

F355 Challenge

RAD Mobile

Ridge Racer

Daytona USA

Sega Rally 2 (I know everyone else considers 1 to be the best but this is my list so eat it)

Wardner

Street Fighter 2

Pac Land

Point Blank

So many more that could have gone on there, I really hate the loss of the arcade it was always such a thrill going on holiday and discovering the new games in the arcades.

No order for me either, but good grief so much nostalgia. They aren't even necessarily the best games, just the ones I loved at the time.

Double Dragon

Ring King (also known as King of Boxer)

Ikari Warriors

Gauntlet

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Joust

Star Wars

Outrun

WWF Superstars

Phoenix

1. OutRun 2

2. Gunblade NY (or possibly LA Machineguns, I can't remember which but those rumbling guns were amazing)

3. Manx TT Superbike

4. Time Crisis 2

5. House of the Dead

6. Daytona USA

7. Sega Rally Championship

8. Prop Cycle

9. Virtual On Ontario

10. Street Fighter II

Could have all been racing games really. Scud Racer and Crazy Taxi only miss out because they lack nostalgia compared to the 90s stuff for me.

respec'

Those Zuntata beats amirite.

While I haven't put so much money into this in the arcades or even saw it in arcades until long after release, hence why it's not on my list, I did indeed play this (3-screen version too) at Taito's HEY! arcade in Akihabara a couple of times. If anyone gets the chance to go to that arcade please do, it's incredible.

Galaga - table top version at rugby club.

Space Invaders - swimming pool action, could hardly reach the controls at first.

Battlezone - swimming pool again.

Track & Field - hazy days at my local arcade.

Side Arms - could one credit this at one point.

Ghost & Goblins - and also one credit this (well, till it chucked you back). Absolutely loved it.

Green Beret - another favourite from my local arcade.

Final Lap 3 - amazing linked up racing action with your mates.

Mach 3 - was just so much fun and amazeballs at the time.

Daytona - Daytona! Let's go away...

And so many others to choose from.

Are we talking coin op only?

1. Track n Field - I was unstoppable on this. Genuinely one of the best players, in the country probably. (with buttons obv, none of easy mode joystick rubbish)

2.Daytona USA

3. Tehkan World Cup  - First game to "get " football.

4. Gyruss

5. Ring King

6. Super Sprint

7. Mad Dog McCree ( i know, but it was revolutionary at the time, and I was great at it)

8. Yie Ar King Fu

9. Gauntlet (Seeing the 4 player cab first time was a "wow" moment)

10. Double Dragon.

One of my favourite things, was reading the Arcade Action section in CVG in the mid 80's, then going on holiday to Clacton, and playing those same arcade games I had read about a few months earlier. Magical times.
