Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story confirmed - James Mangold writing and directing. As you wished?

Everyone doubted the Han Solo film would work, but it did, pretty much. Boba Fett's a trickier one on account of him being a bland villain who doesn't really do much other than look cool (at least in the two films that count), but the film's being written and directed by James Mangold (Cop Land, Walk the Line, Logan) so it's got a chance.

Boba Fett was cool in Empire, wasted in Jedi, pointless in the Star Wars Special Edition and ruined in Attack of the Clones. There is no need whatsoever for this film to exist.

Of course I'm going to see it.

If it also features the other Empire bounty hunters I hope everyone in the film keeps getting Zuckuss and 4-LOM mixed up.

Pretty much this.  And I want to see more bounty hunters dressed in Dr Who costumes from the 60's.

I just remembered they already gave Boba a terrible origin story. All that's left is to have a scene where he visits a vocal coach to learn to disguise his Kiwi accent and then everyone turns and looks at the camera portentously .

IIRC the last time this was being kicked around it concerned - spoilerly speculation within  -

Spoiler

the man who ASSUMES the Boba Fett name, after Fett's death in the Sarlaac.

A nameless stranger finds the armour, dons it, uses it to benefit himself etc before slowly coming to help a bunch of farmers/homesteaders against Bandits/Marauders.

It's basically a full on Western, in the Star Wars universe and given that it's James Mangold who's signed on, where every film he makes is a Western, I could see them running with this one.

So

Spoiler

Boba Fett is not just a spectacularly ineffective bounty hunter - he's a code name and set of armour for a series of spectacularly ineffective bounty hunters? It's just like all those awful Bond head-canons that people can't seem to keep in their heads.

The fact 3:10 To Yuma is not mentioned here should really result in some kind of ban, or at the very least a warning!

All I need is for Beltrami to be confirmed on the Music and can put this in the 'high expectations' category!

I’ve effectively lost all interest in Star Wars now. It’s been a slow separation, but it’s gone. Can’t muster up any enthusiasm for going to see Solo, and Boba Fett was never a character who I cared much for in the original films either.

I honestly don’t think Disney have much of a clue as to how to play Star Wars at all really.

So coming up we've got:

Star Wars 'Episode' films (IX, X, XI...etc)

Rian Johnson's film series

The Game of Thrones guys' film series

Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story

Obi Wan: A Star Wars Story (still rumoured, but there’s so much stuff out there that it feels almost certain)

Solo sequels (depending on box office, the cast are signed up for them anyway)

Jon Favreau's Star Wars TV series

Basically the Jodo Kast story from the books.

3:10 to Yuma is excellent. I wonder if this film will have the same actor from Yuma and Logan being a massive twat about water supply. :coffee:

Well that's just mental! It is one of those films I wish I could forget and watch for the first time again. Incredible performances from Bale and Crowe plus one of the best finales to any film I have seen, never mind just Westerns!

I loved his character in the EU, not at all as one dimensional as you might imagine. I think it helped how much I liked the Clone books, culminating in Order 66.

My wife may or may not have made me a little cross-stitch of Fett for my desk at work here, so take my fanboying with a pinch of salt.

Cool things Boba Fett did in the films:

*Hid behind the Empire's bins

*Dobbed in Han Solo to the Empire instead of capturing him himself

*Took Han Solo to Jabba (why Darth Vader let him do this in return for basically a tip-off I have no idea. Did he even get paid?)

*Knocked into the maw of a hentai monster by a flailing blind man

FTFY

Spoiler

Although if it starts an argument about how Boba has scuba gear in his suit, as defined in some EU circlejerk, I'm deleting the post :hmm:

*realized the Falcon was clamped to the back of a star destroyer when the Imperial fleet had no idea

*heard Luke ready his weapon as Luke hid around the corner of a corridor on Cloud City and fired at him as he poked his head around the corner (you can see Fett glance over in Luke's direction)

*is essentially the only thing which visibly spooks Han (requires tacit acknowledgement of Han being fearless, but he charged down a bunch of storm troopers by yelling at them, so)

I suppose we may have got more of a Jango vs Obi-wan had 80s effects permitted.

Genuine question - are people that bothered about these things? This film won't affect your memories, the whole "ruining my childhood" thing is such quintessential internet hyperbole.
