I’d be up for trying to get into some Smash.

Never ever played it before though, and i’m still not 100% sure on how it all works.  I’ll be the perfect punch bag.

Just got given this as a birthday present. I've never played a smash before and I've played a few goes on it but feel like I'm just button mashing as it's so so fast. I had to Google a tutorial on how to find the tutorial video in the game! How should I go about getting to grips with this? Is there a particular mode /training mode? Should I play with all the characters or is there an easy mode character to start with?

There’s a training mode in ‘games and more’ where you can practice against a static target.

The main thing to remember is that the button layout and moves are basically the same for each character. They have individual special moves but they’re all triggered the same (b button and a combination of up, down, left and right, or neutral)

Head into Smash and set the AI low and practice that way. To get better, put the skill level up incrementally.

Enjoy!

I’ve no experience of Dragon Quest but the Hero looks amazing. Rather than just adding another fighter this one comes with an entirely new mechanic yet still accessible because it’s got the same control scheme as everyone else.

 It’s epic.

So Hero is a bit of a beast. He has a lot more weight in his movement than the various Link’s.

The move set is rather deep. Kamikaze is going to ruin a lot of people’s lives.

Spoiler

In summary. Hero is a very well designed casual character.

For competitive play however he is the most stupid and degenerate character ever put in the game because of how heavily he can lean on winning through sheer luck.

Critical hit, random menu selection, hocus pocus and random one-hit-kill moves have no place in this game on a competitive level.

Looks amazing as a casual character though.

Putting my thoughts in a spoiler box because of all the twitters videos. This character is silly.

Oh cool! I didnt know that. I guess I changed them to tilt straight away.

I didn’t even know you could put tilt attacks on the right stick :blink2:

Just tested it.

I wonder if tilt on the right stick is actually a better way to play but after 130 odd hours of play I can’t see myself unlearning my current method.

Charging smashes on the right stick seems more intuitive, though.

I think half the thing with the special moves is having enough time to

a) select them before you get battered and

b) your opponent can also see what you’re going for

Did anyone get involved in the online tourney Heroes Vs Villains over the weekend? I did and went pretty far!

(pretty far off the screen, that is)
