Best and Worst Sidekicks in Games

Recommended Posts

Who are your favourite sidekicks or partners from games and why? And who are the worst?

Some of my nominations off the top of my head:

Best

Slippy from Starfox - totally useless but you gotta love da frog.

Raiden in MGS4 - best cyborg ninja ever

Trico in the Last Guardian - the loveable giant dogcatbird (and same for your trusty horse in Shadow of the Colossus)

Worst

Natalya from Goldeneye - you know why

Luigi in most Mario games - shut up you useless cretin and let fatty do the work

Navi in Zelda Ocarina of Time - LISTEN

Best: Garrus, Mass Effect 2. Proper bro-ness with just the right balance of actual deadly kickassness and occasional levity/vulnerability.

Worst: Ghost, Destiny 2. A nightmare of endless flippancy and irrelevant irreverence. Never actually in danger (unlike Garrus, whom you can literally get killed), but by God, did I wish he'd died when he got booted off the Tower. Fuck off, you nauseatingly wacky little shit; I'd rather take my chances with permanent death, thanks.

The worst has to be from Resident Evil 5 when the second character was computer controlled.

The best, probably the little girl from one of the Bioshocks, I want to say 3 ?

Ah yeah Garrus is a definite bro. The scientist alien (I forget the name) was also brilliant. EDIT - its Mordin:

Who was Dee Dee in MGS5? The robot? The dog was pretty ace.

Another worst nomination: Luke from the Professor Layton games. Shut your stupid cockney mouth, kid!

Best nomination: Detective Gumshoe from the Phoenix Wright games - a good hearted buffoon, the Watson to Wright's Holmes.

Another best nomination: Q from Zero Time Dilemma, a poor kid with a massive round helmet stuck on his head, who freaks everyone out at first but turns out to be a cool guy after all.

Worst :

Yorda from ICO. "FUCKING HURRY UP."

Claptrap from BL2.  "Annoys the piss out of me.  Why can't I shoot you?"

Luigi from SMB. "Weird brother won't leave us alone."

Best:

Can't think of a single one.  Maybe Yoshi...  Maybe.*

Maybe the Horse from SoTC.*

Maybe the Metal Slug frm Metal Slug.*

*Anything mountable, perhaps...

Isn't the bat just something you transform into to get to high places?

Although that is correct, you can also unlock a bat familiar. It is the one with fireballs IIRC.

Best - The guy who shows up when you're summoning after being chinned by Vicar Amelia for the fifteenth time.

He bows, and pulls out some buffed weapon.

Forget his name in my case, but we've known his kind and gone on to be him. Top partner.

If the previews are anything to go by, Zelda in BotW could be an awesome companion in the DLC shortly.

Otherwise Best: Kazooie

Worst: Fi

Alfred and Valtr are close runners-up, but Eileen is badass

Worst: Half-Life scientists

Can they be trusted to do anything right?

Oh and on a similar note, Hal Emmerich
