I was all excited up until the "Louis Leterrier directing" bit. A sequel/prequel movie has been in development hell for well over a decade so at least something is finally happening with it.

Sometimes things are just of a time yet at the same time, timeless. They've just got a look, you know? It's the sort of thing that if revisited and they get it in any way wrong in the look or feel it's going to be incredibly jarring because there's always that single and incredibly distinct reference point from the past that's going to be there.

The series tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting-edge visual effects. We find that the world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

I would be the last to say the original film ever needed expanding, but I really hope this doesn't suck as it looks visually incredible.

Looks boss.  Going to give the film a rewatch, not seen it since I was a kid.

I've just ordered the 4K BR in anticipation. I watched it almost exactly 7 years ago (BR release) but before that I saw it once, at the cinema, aged 6, in glorious Terrify-o-Vision.

Growing up we had it on tape that my Dads friend got us, no questions asked, was on the same tape as Labyrinth.

I haven't seen the original, but I'm so in for this.

Then watch it right now. I cannot imagine watching this without any context.
