Detroit: Become Human (someone gave David Cage money again)

Recommended Posts

Gaming's very own Orson Welles is back again.

Detroit is based on what happens to the android Kara after she escapes her lab. In the game, Detroit is referred to as an "Android City."

I suspect that whatever happens to 'Kara' it will somehow involve a leering shower scene.

I know I rag on Monsieur Cage, but I am genuinely looking forward to this.

For the inevitable Two Best Friends playthrough of it.

I genuinely came in here to say that I was looking forward to seeing TBF play this; that video is bound to be far more entertaining than the 'game' itself.

Those are some god-tier comedy LPs. I adore those guys.

That title is incredible. It will probably be very pretty, have half decent voice work, a shit tonne of shark jump moments and I won't be able to sit still until I diligently ignore it.

The best thing about David Cage is that for years he's been wanking on about gamers being shoot-bang obsessed Neanderthals, not able to handle the raw emotion and subtle storytelling of his magnum opuses.

Then the stuff like the Walking Dead, Life is Strange and Until Dawn come out and, no, gamers do like these slower interactive story type games. They just don't like his sub Movies4Men level writing.

Did those games sell significantly more than Quantic Dreams games usually do then? I imagine Walking Dead probably did, but I expect Heavy Rain at least sold way more than the other two.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll all be devastated to learn that David Cage isn't the sole writer and director on Detroit, unlike his other games, he has two co-writers and a co-director.

It's funny, I agree with most of the criticisms of Quantic Dream's games (other than the "they aren't real games, just semi-interactive cutscenes" argument). And yet I still unashamedly and unironically think they are great . It's hard to articulate why I like them so much, in thinking about it I suppose a big part of it is his games feel really sincere, despite their flaws, where as most other big budget, high production values AAA games feel cynical and every aspect of them feels designed by committee (since the major American studios and publishers started to dominate the market)

Have Quantic Dreams finished that bone exclusive one with the tie-in TV show then? Or am I getting myself confused and that wasn't them?

That's Remedy (Max Payne).

Oh yeah of course it is. Whoops!

EDIT: I realise that's evidently bordering on an insult from the amount of responses :D Just shat it out on my keyboard without really thinking, obviously a very different dev and I feel ashamed at my faux pas :P

How are Quantic Dream still in business when so many great developers have been shut down after one bad game?

I would guess that they're bankrolled by the French Governments funding of French culture and the arts.

If you get them mixed up again try to remember that Remedy are the ones who have ever made a game worth playing.

Also, if it feels/looks like someone got kicked out of film school for being too egotistical it's Remedy, if it looks/feels like someone got kicked out of preschool for not being able to spell it's written by David Cage.

It's not a matter of confusing the companies just I forgot who made that other thing which looks a bit cage-y. I can easily remember which is which just by qd being the one with the just slightly racist 70s porn star / kareem Abdul jabbar character...
