Nintendo Switch

Thought I'd put this here first for the Nintendo Switch fans.

When the Wireless SNES controllers went up at the start of this month, I balked at the £8.90 postage cost, but then ordered the maximum possible (4), with the hope of sharing this cost in future.

So they have arrived, and I have 3 spare, which I'll pass on for the RRP + 1/4 of the postage cost + UK postage price, which comes to £34 each (PayPal Gift, Monzo, or Bank Transfer). I won't make any profit on these!

Jolly decent of you, man. Good work.

The UK trailer for The Stretchers is disappointing when you hear the OTT Japanese voice actors have been replaced by... not much at all.

April Kart U sounds like the best game.

May have to march out and get it.

Anyone here with Minecraft on the Switch? Have you updated to 1.13? Is it now broken?

We can't play any saved worlds nor create any new worlds. It crashes every time one is loaded or being created. Quite a few people with similar issues on the Mojang bugtracker, but wondered if "normal" people here have had the same problem.

It's a physical copy, if that makes a difference.

We had some issues so deleted everything downloaded/saved on the machine and it's worked fine after redownloading everything. We have the cartridge too, the downloads were about 5-600mb from memory.

Yeah, I’ve seen word that works... for a while :(

Don't want to lose the save data though, otherwise I’d have done it.

I didn’t think there was any save data, worlds etc are tied to the Microsoft account so it just gets it from there whichever platform you’re on I thought? My son certainly didn’t lose anything anyway.

Has anyone seen any offers anywhere for online subs? I need to renew mine next week.

Is it still £18 a year? Never seen any offers anywhere for Nintendo's online service. Still £18 is hardly going to break the bank and you get all those lovely NES and SNES games thrown in.

I think they package online with some games so maybe worth checking out some of these if you are after a particular game at the same time?

You can get a year for free if you have Amazon Prime.

Apologies if this has already been answered but how does one claim this?

There's no Microsoft account - it's all offline. There's a cloud save, but deleting everything and restoring the save doesn't fix it.

It was about £25 for a family sub a couple of months ago. From CDKeys, I think.

Single sub is £15 atm: https://www.cdkeys.com/nintendo/switch/nintendo-switch-online-12-month-365-day-membership-switch-cd-key

Ah right - yeah that’s a problem then. There is an option that says something like check for corrupt data which gives a redownload option after picking it but I wouldn’t be confident saying what it did with users files. Really it should leave them alone and just download the patches again, but it’s bound to fuck your over somehow

Yeah. The bugtracker is showing that even people who have realms and have managed to get the save working on another platform, are finding it's still broken when moved back to the Switch.

I hope they do sort it out as the boot time seems insanely long and we've had issues with profiles too. It's not what I expect from a big name studio.

I just thought - if everything's on a memory card at the moment (not sure how this works as ours is just using the internal memory), could you remove it and see what happens just using the internal storage? Is there an option to copy the save over?

Saves are only ever on the internal memory. But I've tried removing the patch data from SD, and even using a different Switch, but no joy.

About the online service - my Switch has two accounts - one JP and one UK.  If I subscribe to the online service with my JP account, will both accounts only be able to play the Japanese SFC games, or will the UK account get the PAL SNES games?

No, each one needs an online sub.

I have 3 accounts to access different eShops - UK, US, Japan - and the UK account has a Switch online subscription. I was able to download the SFC app from the Japanese eShop using the Japanese account. When the SFC app launches you just need to choose an account that has an active online subscription (the UK one in my case).

I can play both SNES and SFC games on my online-enabled UK account.  Had to download the SFC app using a JPN account, but can't actually play the games with it. Has to be the UK one.

Edit: Same as Santa's Boyfriend said.

Yes. I’ve the reverse - a UK account, but I play both UK SNES and JP SFC games using it. Don’t see why it’d be different the other way round.

What do you get on the Japan apps that you don't with the UK one?

There’s a handful of different games, and you get the JP variants of the games and their box art.
