Nintendo Switch

Recommended Posts

I charge mine off an Anker battery and USB-C cable and it delivers enough juice to slowly charge the Switch while in use. Will often charge it off an iPhone plug head overnight since that’s very slow.

I am as close to certain as it’s possible to be without having specialist qualifications that you cannot brick your Switch by charging it off a battery/iPhone plug.

Issues reported by others in this thread have related to bricking as a result of using a third party dock. It seems likely that using an unofficial power adapter while docked actually causes the problem, as I seem to recall someone using the official adapter with the unofficial dock and being fine, so probably there’s something in the interplay between adapter, dock and the Switch detecting it’s in the dock and changing to TV mode.

Are you sure @rgraves? A quick search says it’s just the docks that were bricking Switches, especially the Nyko ones after the V5.0.0 firmware update. I’ve not had an issue with any combination USB-C cable, power brick, iPhone, iPad or Mac charger.

The docks were bricking switches as they were being used with unofficial power supplies - there have been (as far as I am aware) no reports of switches being bricked when using an official power supply - regardless of the dock being used.

I've used multiple third-party docks, but always powered them with the official power supply and never had any issues.

This is, just to be clear, only when running in docked mode (when it's going to be drawing the maximum amount of power) - obviously you can just regularly charge a Switch (with it off, sleeping, or in handheld mode) with pretty much anything with no problems.

For those that claimed the 12 months free Nintendo Online via Twitch Prime, here's a reminder that you can claim the other 9 months now. Mine has been extended 'til September  2020. Annoyingly it seems that you have to link a credit card to it to redeem, then go to your shop settings and delete the card and auto renewal :S

I linked Paypal, then of course, deleted i and turned off auto renewel

I've also used 3rd party PSU's from Amazon on a Switch docked and Portable mode, working fine with official Docks, I have had some problems with 3rd party docks though, soft bricks that required I hold the power button for 20 or so seconds and use the official PSu, never had probs with chargers, but all 3 3rd party docks went in the bin after it happened twice.

Do you mean like this?

I've considered getting one of these.

Unless I'm mistaken, you can buy them on Etsy with custom skins. They're not cheap, however. Someone on here has SNES ones, which look damn sexy. Only some have the PRO dpad, however.

I have the SNES ones, changed the shells over myself onto the original Joy Cons and would say that i probably wouldn't do it again. It's quite fiddly, and time consuming too.

Well the virtues of a tempered glass screen protector were fully realised this weekend. My son had the Switch at our hotel in Hull for his ice hockey tournament, when apparently they all decided to play knee hockey in one of the rooms instead. Apparently the puck they were using accidentally caught the Switch and the "screen just smashed Dad, I didn't mean it".

Let him sweat for a bit, but yeah, the protector was smashed to bits, but came off easily with a nice clean screen underneath. Shame I can't find the other one that I got (was a pack of two)_ so have just ordered a new pack.

Has this been posted here already?

The Switch UP concept design art!  This is exactly what the redesigned Switch Mini should be (though maybe the buttons should be up top).

Swapping the buttons with the stick on the right is a terrible idea.

It is only more comfortable for FPS games and twin stick shooters, and even then, only marginally.

Having the right buttons level with the left stick is more comfortable for almost every game on the Switch.

What’s the best Switch bundle deal at the moment?

Friends kid wants to get one asap.

Did you get one sorted?

If not then ebay are doing a 20% off thingy that you can use at the AO ebay store. £295 for the Switch with MK8 and BOTW would be my choice / is pretty damn good though there are other deals if that one doesn't take your fancy :).

Hmmm, just seen this on the Nintendo site:

Possibly a push to clear the current model to make way for the new one(s)?

I can't see them getting rid of the current model at the moment, it's still the best selling console in the US and it's at the stage when they'll be making much bigger profit per unit, although I could see them releasing a 3DS type replacement of the Switch in time for Pokemon Sword/Shield and then releasing a more powerful Switch in 2 years or so, with backwards compatibility and the same OS (which they've said they're aiming to do with future console releases, similar to the iPhone upgrade process).

Going on holidays this week, could do with an indie game or two. What's better? That KatanaZero or that Pedro game? They both seem similar?

Both OK. Can I recommend Lapis X Labyrinth as potentially superior to both, depending on tastes?
