Better Call Saul!

It'll work. I don't know why everyone is suddenly so skeptical of Gilligan, when has he ever steered you wrong? Even before Breaking Bad Gilligan was pumping out some of the very best episodes of the X Files, which were sweet and funny and scary and twisted in equal measure. A one-off* one-hour dark-comedy prequel starring Saul sounds like a great idea, it'll be fun.

*is it one episode, or a series of one hour episodes?

Surely it'll be a series of one hour shows, I can't imagine they'll be able to explore that much in a single one off.

I'm wondering if the writing team will be different from Breaking Bad? They might need writer's with more of a comedy slant to sustain a more light-hearted show. Be interested to see how this pan's out either way.

I'm sure I also read somewhere that Vince Gilligan wanted to work on a Western series next, that's something I would love to see.

I see Vince only helping to get this off the ground before working on his next 'proper' show. I do think this could be a great show and have no doubt at all that Vince and his writers will be able to make him a more complex character then he currently is. It would be fun seeing the odd return of BB cast. It would be really interesting if they had an episode where he briefly bumps into Walt in the supermarket or something (This show would likely feature Saul before he becomes known) who has his hair and tash. Would be kinda sad to see Walt again before he started his transformation.

Gilligan is taking his time over this, which has to bode well.

"They (AMC) were very understanding. Luckily, that worked out very well," he said. "They've been good to us which is why we like working with them."

The stately pace and attention to detail, though, he said, has paid off. "It's nothing any studio or network would want, but we have a way of doing things that are slower than other TV shows....We want to think everything through and we feel that pays dividends."

More news about "Breaking Bad" spinoff "Better Call Saul" came out over the weekend after creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould spoke at the Television Critics' Association (TCA) Press Tour.

We now know exactly when the show will take place and who will star in the series alongside Bob Odenkirk.

AMC also revealed two new images for the show.

Here's everything we know about "Better Call Saul."

1. What will it be about:better call saul goodman

According to AMC, the show will be a prequel that watches Saul's transformation from Jimmy McGill to the lawyer we know. Here's the official synopsis:

"The series is set six years before Saul Goodman (Odenkirk) meets Walter White. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is “fixer” Mike Erhmantraut (Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “criminal lawyer.” The series’ tone is dramatic, woven through with dark humor."

2. When will it take place:saul goodman better call saul

The series will take place around 2002. Since AMC's strict definition of the series as a prequel goes against what Gould recently said about "Better Call Saul."

Gould told the New York Post the timeline will be flexible allowing it to go back and forth between different time periods to possibly bring back old "Breaking Bad" characters.

Odenkirk also told us he'd love for the show to be a prequel and sequel.

3. Who will be in the cast:

Joining Odenkirk will be "Breaking Bad" star Jonathan Banks reprising his role of Mike Erhmantraut.

Michael McKean ("This is Spinal Tap") will play Saul's brother Chuck.

Rhea Seehorn ("Whitney") will play Kim.

Patrick Fabian ("The Last Exorcism") will be Hamlin.

4. How many episodes will it be?

Season one will have 10 episodes while season 2 (yes, it was already renewed!) will consist of 13.

5. When will it premiere?

Although no set date has been confirmed yet, AMC has said "Better Call Saul" will be released early 2015.
