Liverpool Football Club Thread - Champions 19/20

Recommended Posts

We discussed it all last season when numerous teams had ludicrous VAR calls.

The accuracy of the decision is only valid if they can pinpoint exactly when the ball leaves the passing player's foot. Which, if I recall correctly, isn't currently possible.

They have the ability to go frame by frame. Go back until the ball isn't a blurred object protruding from the passers foot. Its not hard.

The FPS of the cameras isn’t enough to 100% discern it.

For some reason for both Van Dijk's and Mane's offside decisions the Liverpool line was drawn from half way along the players arm.

The Mane one is nothing to do with going frame by frame from when the ball is played is it? Look at the red line in the picture, its coming from Mane's arm.

Good. While it won't change the result it is WAY past time one of these morons was made to explain their decision. And there is simply no way to say "His elbow was offside" and then not have to admit that something has to change afterwards.

Make the boneheads say the words. Make them justify their actions. Sooner or later a club will force the issue with legal action, something Sheffield United possibly should have done last season.

Pickford should be retrospectively banned.

If that’s true it makes the fact Pickford got away with it absolutely scandalous and I doubt he can be retroactively banned because that only happens if the ref didn’t see it which he obviously did. This means Fabinho at center back for most of the season the and hoping Alisson recovers faster than expected.

I don't believe the 'ref saw it' clause is there any more, so retroactive action is possible and should be applied here.

Timing couldn't be worse either. Right after the end of the window.

Apparently VAR were so concerned with the offside they didn't check for the red card.

Damage now done and we have to adjust.

Last time I checked you can't score with your elbow. So Mane being offside there is ridiculous.

Isn't the point being the handball rule was changed so that handball is from the bottom of the sleeve, and the line was drawn from the bottom of the sleeve.

Season is going to have to be damage limitation at this rate. Has this been confirmed?

He’s been sent to a specialist according to the Echo. Left hospital on crutches, which is standard procedure but would be surprised to see him play until next season given Pickford’s full weight hyperextended his knee.

Injuries happen, and expect this of all seasons will see plenty more sadly, but seeing such a reckless challenge go unpunished is galling to say the least. There have been shockers in the derby on both sides but usually get carded.

Not really arsed by the result, just a massive downer seeing such a key player taken out so crudely.

Fingers-crossed Thiago is just heavy bruising, he looked so, so good yesterday and added a whole new dimension to the midfield.

However long he's out for I expect Fabinho to the first choice center back with either Matip or Gomez alongside him until van Dijk returns. The hole this leaves in midfield will hopefully be filled by Thiago assuming his injury isn't serious.

That’s one plus; lots of midfield options to cover Fabinho dropping back. Did look at free agents at CB but pretty slim pickings at the minute. If VVD is, as expected, out until next season, wonder if there will be a move for short-term cover? Suppose it depends on how the season is panning out by then.

Devastating for VVD on a personal level, a big blow for the club too. There's no doubt it makes us weaker, even if he hasn't really looked imperious at all post-lockdown.

I wonder if Klopp will continue with the high line now our best defender is out (plus having poor backup GK) and perhaps drop 5/10 yards deeper now? Teams with real pace - I thinking Tottenham when Bale is fit to go along with Song as they are on at the moment - could have a field day otherwise.

We'll have to revert to second season Klopp and start scoring 6 when we concede 4

Villa game would've been great for the neutral if you'd done that.

7-9 scoreline, yes please.

Do wonder what the highest scoring game will be this season. Chelsea Leeds in a few weeks has potential.
