Information

Xenoblade Chronicles X

Release Date: 4th December 2015 (EU/US)

Platform: Wii U

Sequel to 2010's Xenoblade Chronicles from Monolith Soft for the Wii, X is a party-based open-world action RPG of massive scale. When Earth is caught in the crossfire between two warring alien species, humanity flees to the stars. One of the colony ships crash-lands on planet Mira, and it's your job to help carve a place to live for the survivors. Traverse the continents by foot or by giant flying mecha, battling a diverse array of indigenous fauna from small herding beasts to towering city-sized juggernauts.

Band together online or explore the world solo, working for one of BLADE's eight Divisions, each of which rewards players for a different type of activity, be it exploration, resource-gathering, or combat. Gather party members to aid you in your defence of the city of New Los Angeles, and build affinity between your group and the city's residents through a network of quests and missions. Forge humanity's fate on a hostile alien world!

You can paint your mech pink, too.

Monolith Soft was responsible for 2010's Xenoblade Chronicles, and it looks like this new game is set to follow in its footsteps. From the trailer we can tell they've been working on another action RPG with a similar battle system. The sprawling environments and massive enemies which worked so well in XC feature heavily here too, but it looks like Monolith Soft want to offer us even grander scales, with landscapes we can fly over and battles fought in giant robot suits.

Will update the thread when we know more. Presumably, given the developer's history, the game will be called Xeno-something, but with the similarities to the original this is most likely Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Some things I've noticed from the trailer:

There's a chat window, which suggests online multiplayer?

You can swap weapons mid-combat, allowing you to switch between melee and ranged attacks.

There's a transforming mecha called a "Doll", which can be used to drive/fly/sail around the world.

You can fight while in the robot suit.

It also seems pretty close to completion with in-game shots and footage. The image on the splash screen is also surely Shulk, so most likely a direct sequel to Chronicles, no?

That draw distance. Only just noticed that it's not just Mechas, it's transforming Mechas. They can fly and transform into whats seems like a motorcycle?

*insert joke about all androgynous JRPG protagonists looking alike*

It's almost certainly Shulk, yeah. Not to spoil too much, but this new game could pretty much begin exactly where XC ended. I'm just hoping for more incredible voice acting.

Looks impressive, and it's great to see a proper, new actually current-gen looking game from Nintendo. Although, it's a bit depressing that they've made the colours so muted.

Here's me thinking I wouldn't need to buy a WiiU for ages yet and they come out with this!

That said, I probably still won't have to due to localisation but still, day one!

This looks lovely. No idea what is going on, never played Xenogears or Xenoblade, but... lovely.

Did I say it was lovely? It's lovely.

Yep. This was my first thought too. Where has all the colour gone?!

So, who wants to analyse this image? I've not played Xenoblade Chronicles.

Does the Player 1/2/3 thing mean it's multi-player or just placeholder text for character names? What about the text box on the lower left? And the timer next to the radar map?>

I'm really happy to see this, Xenoblade is amazing and all you can think while playing it is 'this is how JRPGs should be made' except it seems no other company thinks that way.

So i've basically been living under a rock, playing nothing but the souls games for the past four years but i loved Xenogears and the saga games (except maybe Xenosaga 2 which dragged a bit). Is the Wii U bc with wii games because i've yet to try out Chronicles and this looks kinda awesome? Agree about the lack of color though...

Wii games are fully backwards compatible but you'll need your Wii controllers (and sensor bar if you buy a basic pack).

Well the text box on the lower left is definitely from a chat, they're greeting each other ("nice to meet you" "good evening") before being amazed at how big that beast is, ending with "okay, let's go get it!"

So yeah, definitely multiplayer.

Oh god, this looks so good. I'm with mdn2; this is the title I'm most looking forward to now.

I hope WiiUs have had a price drop by the time this comes out.

Having just watched the video again, I would like to reiterate: it looks fucking bloody brilliant.

I really love this, but the combat as it were in XC needs some work. It can become a mess at times. The camera controls on the wiimotes d-pad will hopefully be mapped to a stick.
