The Walking Dead!

Recommended Posts

It's fascinating how everyone seems to be in exactly the same place with this show this season. Previous seasons have had staunch fans, waverers and abandoners of varying degrees but suddenly it's like we've all fallen off the same cliff at the same time.

My problem, other than the terminally dull and poorly written / filmed episodes is that - i think on paper this season must have all sounded so great to the show runners.

"Let's film it all on the same day from everyone's different views!"

Shootouts, car chases, explosions - peril, death, treachery!!

But it just hasn't worked, and the thing is I don't know where its going any more as they stumble from one 'big bad' to another, established over 2/3 seasons - going through the same emotional / existential conflicts and crises - rinse and repeat.......

NOTHING IS HAPPENING.

This went from must see compelling TV to "shall we watch Walking Dead? "Sigh, i guess so"

It's just one step more... go on, take it...

"shall we watch Walking Dead?"

"...nah, it's shite"

The best bit of this season so far was...

The helicopter flying over in the last episode.

It alludes to there being actually something else going on in the wider world above the enclosed and small feeling world we’ve been getting since forever.

I’ve been thinking for ages that they should give us a wider view of what else is going on. Are scientists working away to find a cure? Have to army built a stronghold somewhere and are rebuilding society? Anything really. Just some new locations outside of the 20 mile radius it feels we’ve been stuck in since the second season, and some new characters that are motivated in different ways than The Governor or Negan.

I've missed a few weeks for various reasons and despite all the noise that it's gotten real bad/worse, I intend on catching up. I've read the spoilers (because my memory is shit at the moment so I'll forget what's happened anyway), but the last few posts have raised a question.

Does anyone know where the fuck they are in America now? It all started in Atlanta but they must have travelled fairly far by now.

It all looks the same though. Tree lined deserted roads, small run down towns and abandoned facilities. It makes it feel tiny.

I’d love to see them go off into the mountains, back into a city, trekking across a desert or get to the coast. Anything to mix it up a bit visually.

Surely! So excited I think I might shit myself. Better check my spare pair of shittin' pants are cleaned up and ready to go. However, if I get so excited that I piss myself, I'm going to feel really stupid. Sat there in my shittin' pants, all soaked in piss, thinking, "Why oh why didn't I wear my pissin' pants?!"

Why did Rick go alone?  How did Michonne the ninja make such a dreadful mistake?  How did Daryl just happen upon the escaping sound system?  Why is the king, who no longer wants to play that character, still talking that way?  Is Maggie even pregnant?  Why am I still watching this nonsense?

For whatever reason the garbage people choose to converse as if they only have 8 words in their vocabulary.

Either give us some content as to why they turned into such fuckwits, or show us that they've always been fuckwits before the Apocalypse. Either way, I'm sick of those fuckwits.

I know I'm just being a moany bitch about the show, but seeing as so many others feel a similar way I don't feel too bad... I find myself sighing throughout pretty much every scene... Whether it be Michonne and Sasha diddling around and the awesome, super magical rocket gun, the King being all gooey, Karl's new BFF, the terrible decision to take a few Saviour hostages when they've just slaughtered 10's if not hundreds of saviours already...

I go....

Best thing thy could do is to kill off Rick and every other goody goody idiot and have Negan as the show's main protagonist.

That Jesus guy is particularly annoying these days. Hoping there'll be a massacre by the prisoners and he'll be screaming up at the sky, "What have I dooooooone!"

I gave up on this after season 5 as it was getting far too repetitive. Three seasons later it sounds like nothing has changed. I gave up on the graphic novel for the same reason. They really need to change up the formula and get some really strong plotlines going. It needs an end-goal. The zombies need to change. It needs to go to new, exciting locations that aren't just wilderness, ruined towns and survivor slumtowns. Take a look at quality zombie fiction like Day Z, or The Girl with All the Gifts, and they take the zombie theme but add plenty of interest in different scenarios, settings and plot twists. Walking Dead is just the same old premise being rehashed again and again - it started off really strong but by season 3 and 4 it was already getting repetitive. It basically needs a big kick up the arse, bring in new writers, add an overall plot hook rather than just "survive, find enclave, everything goes to shit, survive" - like a zombie cure, an evolution of zombies, true rebuilding of civilisation like Day Z, or something.

Yeah I was confused by the ending...

I remember a scene where the bin people escort him out after declining his offer then much later on he has been tied up in a 'cell'? What did I miss?
