I don't think I really understood what I was doing during the demo's 'boss battle' section; I hit the bastard a few times by just being really, really close, holding my shield up and slashing him from the side. I didn't notice a pattern in which slashes he'd catch at all, so it felt a but random and unsatisfying, especially because he didn't attack back at all. He looks brilliantly menacing just walking toward you with that hand out though, and my uncertaintly with the controlls really added to it. I was scuffing backward like a great big coward.

In his next stage, with the charging slashes, it was really, really great fun backflipping over his charging slashes and slashing the face off him. I was pretty inconsistent with it, and they were pretty much mad constant slashes. I like that they kept those nice musical stabs from Wind Waker.

Was that silver thing his health bar? It seemed to change to gold at one point, and it wasn't near the bottom when he slid off defeated?

I don't think you really clicked with what you were meant to do, lol...

During the first part of the fight, you're meant to learn how to feint. As in, indicate you're attacking from the right and then quickly switch to an uppercut. Otherwise Ghirahim just blocks your sword with his fingers - that is awesome by the way, perfect for a villain who you are meant to be intimidated by - or he even just grabs your sword and throws it away and you have to run after it.

The second part of the fight, where he has a sword is all about learning how to parry with your shield bash to catch him offguard before delivering a beating. And about deflecting his projectile attacks with good timing and 1:1 motion+ directional slashes.

Yeah, I thought it was something like that but when I just sidled up against him with my shield pressing right into him and slashed from left to right he got hit every time. It may well be that in switching my grip to do the slash the game registered the positioning for a different slash first and that's how he read it. Dunno.

Deflecting his projectiles was easy enough once I had a feel for the diagonal ones. When you say 'parry' with my shield; do you mean raising it right before the point of impact? Or just holding it up? Does he stagger for longer if you block closer to the point of impact?

Sometimes you can catch him on his recovery after a teleport, the Bison bastard.

Actually, incorrigible optimist that I am, I never start spamming the waggle when I first play a Wii game - I always give it a fair chance before noting that, yet again, the waggle is shite and I may as well spam it. I'm hoping that Zelda: SS will be different though and judging from the edge review it's looking good!
