  1. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a552739/lovefilm-instant-to-become-amazon-prime-instant-video.html I used to be with Lovefilm, but left when they stopped renting games. At the time their streaming video service was nice as an added bonus on the subscription, but not something I'd have paid for on its own due to a poor library and apps only available on a very limted number of devices with rubbish update support. Not sure if this will tempt me away from Netflix, their original programming (House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Arrested Development) blow away Amazon's rather uninspiring efforts in that area and without the introductory offer it's actually more expensive than Netflix (only by about £7 but still). The main argument for that price is the Amazon Prime delivery which i wouldn't particularly want. Still, more competition is good for us customers, not sure I'd want to be subscribed to two streaming services, but if they significantly improve their library I might take a look eventually.
  2. To coincide with Criterions new site launch (you can now download their films for $5 and if you decide to buy the DVD as well you get the rental fee back) they have launched a new social networking site for film fans that also has free films to watch. The list is pretty small at the moment but it does have my all time favourite Japanese film - After Life. http://www.theauteurs.com/
  3. 7500, the code for a plane hijacking, sees Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the pilot of a plane doing a routine trip from Berlin to Paris, which gets hijacked. Apparently the whole movie is from the point of view of the cockpit, only seeing outside briefly when the door is opened or on a monitor showing just outside the door. JGL end up alone in the cockpit as he watches hijackers kill one hostage and threaten to kill more on the monitor unless he lets them in. Comes to Amazon on Friday.
  4. Charlize Theron and friends stab and shoot people all over in a movie based on a graphic novel. She and her group have been around for centuries thanks to immortality. But in the present day, their ability is discovered and they must stop those who seek to replicate their power. It's on Netflix on 10 July. Rated R.
  5. May as well start a thread as it's now got a name. And as mentioned in the JW2 thread, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum are back, along with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Colin Trevorrow back directing, with shooting started yesterday. Currently set for release on 11 June 2021.
  6. Matthew Vaughn is directing a movie about the origins of Kingsman. Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Brühl, Djimon Hounsou and Charles Dance star. Coming on 14 February.
  7. Del Toro plans stop-motion 'Pinocchio' Del Toro teaming up with Henson Company for a stop-motion movie. Penned by Del Toro and someone called Gris Grimley who did a version of the book in 2002. I don't know him, but maybe some of you do. Oh, and one word which seems to stand out there is necrophilia...
  8. The latest from Spike Lee, coming to Netflix on Friday. Getting good reviews. Rated R, 154 minutes. Also features Jean Reno and Giancarlo Esposito. Apparently the flashback sequences will feature the actors without deaging effects or makeup.
  9. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/disney-harvey-weinstein-teaming-up-594999 Disney and Harvey Weinstein bury the hatchet to make a live-action movie based on the first two of the popular Artemis Fowl books. Screenplay by Michael Goldenberg, who wrote Contact, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and, er, Green Lantern... Seemed like this had been coming forever, but I see it sort of got shelved in the Weinstein split from Disney.
  10. It's a WWII battleship drama written by and starring Tom Hanks. It's based on The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester. Shortly after the US enters the war, Hanks is a Commander on his first wartime assignment, in charge of an escort fleet protecting a merchant convoy. They're being stalked by U-Boats. And he is also battling his own self-doubts and personal demons. Originally due to hit cinema on 21 June, it's just been nabbed by Apple for their TV+, because the virus has made a balls of cinema plans. No firm date yet, but apparently "soon".
  11. Seems to have been confirmed that the Wonder Woman sequel is named Wonder Woman 1984. Obviously, Gal Gadot is back, with Patty Jenkins directing. But Chris Pine is also back, in the 80s. Presumably copying the TV show thing of having the same actor playing the child (or grandchild in this case?) of the previous character.
  12. Jim Jarmusch is making a zombie comedy. Nothing really known about plot, but it stars Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Selena Gomez, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi and Chloe Sevigny. It's already shooting.
  13. Mary Poppins is getting a sequel, starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The film will be directed by Rob Marshall. Click here for info on the plot. I'm almost in a state of shock. Can't believe I hadn't heard about this being in development. I will avoid this like hell and only consider watching it if it were to get an insane amount of rave reviews. This just feels wrong to me it's not like Disney ever cared for P. L. Travers and her vision, but man... Would love to be proven wrong of course. Plus, ever since seeing this, the only new Mary Poppins I accept is a Kristen Bell Mary Poppins
  14. Welcome to the John Wick Cinematic Universe. John Wick producers have acquired a script for Ballerina, which they intend to place in the John Wick universe. As you probably guessed from the name and setting, it's a female led action flick. Said to be in the vein of La Femme Nikita, but more pulpy and stylised, like Tarantino or Vaughn. It's been written by a young newbie, taken on by Tony Stark Robert Downey Jr.'s company as an intern but is quickly rising due to apparent talent. Big fan of Shane Black, apparently. The movie is about a young woman, raised as an assassin, hunting other assassins who killed her family. Not written as a Wick spin-off, but Lionsgate beat off (fnar) WB and Universal to buy it with a view to expanding the Wick franchise.
  15. Videogame movie incoming from Lionsgate. Eli Roth directing. Craig Mazin wrote a screenplay.
  16. Yeah, they're going there. It's not clear what the nature of the project is in relation to the original. It's being written by Nicole Perlman, writer of Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as the upcoming Black Widow and Captain Marvel.
  17. Jackpot is the latest announced entry in the SPUMC. There, I said it. SPUMC. Jackpot is a superheroine and mother who gained her powers while doing gene therapy research and was accidentally exposed to Lot 777. Her name and the 777 made me think luck would be an element to her powers, but apparently not. Seems to be just superhuman strength. It also all went down while she was pregnant, but the daughter doesn't seem to have been affected either, so I'm not sure why they decided to make that a point. It's being written by Marc Guggenheim.
  18. Couldn't see a dedicated thread for this. Apologies if there is one.
  19. The usual crew are back. Rock apparently won't be, but they're adding John Cena and UFC fighter Francis Ngannou. Michael Rooker also joining. Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren also coming back. There's rumours of Lucas Black too. It already started shooting a couple of months ago, and had an incident when a stuntman fell about 20 feet to the ground in Leavesden studios and suffered a bad head injury, being put in an induced coma for a while. No word on story yet, but it's shooting in London, LA, Thailand and Georgia (the country).
  20. The Venom sequel has a name now. Venom: Let there be Carnage. And it's been pushed back from 2 October this year to 25 June 2021, taking the date vacated by The Batman yesterday. As had been stated in the original movie thread, Andy Serkis is directing. Tom Hardy back as Eddie Brock/Venom and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady/Carnage.
  21. https://deadline.com/2020/04/transformers-animated-movie-paramount-hasbro-toy-story-4-director-josh-cooley-1202921100/ Paramount are doing an animated Transformers movie revolving around the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron on Cybertron. It's not directly related to the live action franchise. It'll be directed by Toy Story 4's Josh Cooley and written by Ant-Man and The Wasp writers Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari.
  22. Rian Johnson writes and directs a whodunnit murder mystery with a bunch of people in a house where someone done a murder and everyone is a suspect. Stars Daniel Craig (DAT ACCENT), Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell and Christopher Plummer. Out 27 November US (apparently 29 in UK)
  23. Seems they are having another go at a theatrical movie version. Although they're giving it to Simon McQuoid, who doesn't appear to have directed anything or worked in any other movie role according to IMDB at least. But they have now cast Joe Taslim as Sub Zero. And they have promised it will be R-Rated and includes Fatalities.
  24. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/linda-cardellini-matt-dillon-join-tom-hardy-al-capone-movie-fonzo-1095208 Tom Hardy stars in a Capone biopic, focusing on later years, after 10 years in prison when he suffers from dementia. Linda Cardellini plays his wife, Mae and Matt Dillon his friend Johnny. Kyle MacLachlan is his doctor and Kathrine Narducci is Capone's sister. It's being written and directed by Josh Trank. Fantastic 4 didn't go down well, but he gets a lot of love for Chronicle. Though personally, that did nothing for me either. I don't know what Fonzo refers to and the other details seem to be fictitious too.
