  1. Gorgeous George stars in and directs this sci-fi film based on the book Good Morning, Midnight. Originally shot for cinema, it's coming to Netflix on 23 December. They even shot it on 65mm for IMAX. Also stars Felicity Jones, Kyle Chandler, David Oyelowo, Demián Bichir, Sophie Rundle, Ethan Peck, Tim Russ and Miriam Shor. George is in an arctic scientific outpost when some sort of catastrophe befalls Earth. Meanwhile, others are on a spaceship, apparently on a mission to check out a possibly habitable world from the looks of it. Neither location has been able to contact anyone else

    Fatman

Mel Gibson is Santa. Business isn't doing so well, so he agrees to a one-time job for the US military, using his particular set of skills. Meanwhile, a rich 12 year old gets a lump of coal in his stocking, so he hires a hitman (Walton Goggins) to take out Santa.
  4. Doug Liman is now shooting a heist comedy drama involving a jewellery heist on Harrods during Covid-19 lockdown. Written by Steven Knight. Main stars Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor and should also feature Ben Stiller, Lily James, Stephen Merchant, Dulé Hill, Jazmyn Simon and Mark Gatiss.
  5. 50 at the time of writing, but that's not important right now. Old is also the name of his next movie. Plot details are still secret, but it's apparently based to some extent on the French graphic novel Sandcastle. And it's clearly got something to do with time.
  6. Next movie from the makers of The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea and The Breadwinner. This one was snapped up by Apple for Apple TV+, but apparently is to be shown in cinemas too. No date, but supposedly this year. Sean Bean's the dad, so he's probably doomed
  7. Coppola has had another go at The Godfather III. New name, The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone, which he says is what he an Puzo always wanted. Re-edited with a new beginning and ending and other stuff rearranged. He says it's a more appropriate ending to the story. It's getting a limited cinema run in December. I don't know if that's US only, as sometimes these things are. It'll be available digitally after that. Chances of it undoing the bad rep Part III had to now?
  8. https://deadline.com/video/welcome-to-the-blumhouse-trailer-amazon-prime-video/ An anthology of 8 Blumhouse movies coming to Amazon. 4 in October and 4 next year. I don't know if that means October next year. They've been churning out quite a lot of movies, with low budgets, often to good success, sometimes huge success.
  9. But why? This time it'll star Will Smith and Kevin Hart.
  10. A new superhero-ish movie out on Netflix today. A new drug gives people a superpower for 5 minutes. Or a chance that it kills them. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a local cop. Dominique Fishback is a teenage dealer and aspiring rapper (apparently rap is part of the storytelling). Jamie Foxx is a former soldier whose daughter was taken. They team up to try to bring down the pills creators, while risking taking it to achieve that. It's written by the co-writer of Reeve's The Batman.
  11. It seems like every couple of years there's another one of these This time James Wan wants to make a movie. A screenplay is being adapted by TJ Fixman (great name), who has apparently been a videogame writer. A bunch of Ratchet & Clank's and Resistance 2. He's recently done some other movie scripts, which are in various stages of development but none released yet.
  12. The next movie, after Soul, is Luca, set on the Italian Riviera. Dated for 18 June 2021, in the US. It'll be the feature directing debut of Enrico Casarosa, who grew up on the Riveria. He previously directed the La Luna short and worked in other parts of other Pixar and Fox/Blue Sky movies.
  13. Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Adventure, a new Rickard Linklater animated movie. Hand drawn and CG animation. There was also a live-action shoot, but it's not entirely clear from the article if that's just for rotoscoping purposes. It's inspired by his own childhood in Houston. 16. https://deadline.com/2020/07/jeremy-rush-to-helm-space-thriller-retrograde-for-nine-days-producers-mandalay-pictures-juniper-productions-1202979510/ Nuclear war has erupted between the US and Russia. 6 astronauts are on the International Space Station when it kicks off. The Russian and US astronauts are instructed to take control of the station from the others by any means necessary. Sounds like something that could easily end badly for all concerned.
  17. 7500, the code for a plane hijacking, sees Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the pilot of a plane doing a routine trip from Berlin to Paris, which gets hijacked. Apparently the whole movie is from the point of view of the cockpit, only seeing outside briefly when the door is opened or on a monitor showing just outside the door. JGL end up alone in the cockpit as he watches hijackers kill one hostage and threaten to kill more on the monitor unless he lets them in. Comes to Amazon on Friday.
  18. The latest from Spike Lee, coming to Netflix on Friday. Getting good reviews. Rated R, 154 minutes. Also features Jean Reno and Giancarlo Esposito. Apparently the flashback sequences will feature the actors without deaging effects or makeup.
  19. Charlize Theron and friends stab and shoot people all over in a movie based on a graphic novel. She and her group have been around for centuries thanks to immortality. But in the present day, their ability is discovered and they must stop those who seek to replicate their power. It's on Netflix on 10 July. Rated R.
  20. Jackpot is the latest announced entry in the SPUMC. There, I said it. SPUMC. Jackpot is a superheroine and mother who gained her powers while doing gene therapy research and was accidentally exposed to Lot 777. Her name and the 777 made me think luck would be an element to her powers, but apparently not. Seems to be just superhuman strength. It also all went down while she was pregnant, but the daughter doesn't seem to have been affected either, so I'm not sure why they decided to make that a point. It's being written by Marc Guggenheim.
  21. It's a WWII battleship drama written by and starring Tom Hanks. It's based on The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester. Shortly after the US enters the war, Hanks is a Commander on his first wartime assignment, in charge of an escort fleet protecting a merchant convoy. They're being stalked by U-Boats. And he is also battling his own self-doubts and personal demons. Originally due to hit cinema on 21 June, it's just been nabbed by Apple for their TV+, because the virus has made a balls of cinema plans. No firm date yet, but apparently "soon".
