  1. 7500, the code for a plane hijacking, sees Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the pilot of a plane doing a routine trip from Berlin to Paris, which gets hijacked. Apparently the whole movie is from the point of view of the cockpit, only seeing outside briefly when the door is opened or on a monitor showing just outside the door. JGL end up alone in the cockpit as he watches hijackers kill one hostage and threaten to kill more on the monitor unless he lets them in. Comes to Amazon on Friday.
  2. The latest from Spike Lee, coming to Netflix on Friday. Getting good reviews. Rated R, 154 minutes. Also features Jean Reno and Giancarlo Esposito. Apparently the flashback sequences will feature the actors without deaging effects or makeup.
  3. Charlize Theron and friends stab and shoot people all over in a movie based on a graphic novel. She and her group have been around for centuries thanks to immortality. But in the present day, their ability is discovered and they must stop those who seek to replicate their power. It's on Netflix on 10 July. Rated R.
  4. Jackpot is the latest announced entry in the SPUMC. There, I said it. SPUMC. Jackpot is a superheroine and mother who gained her powers while doing gene therapy research and was accidentally exposed to Lot 777. Her name and the 777 made me think luck would be an element to her powers, but apparently not. Seems to be just superhuman strength. It also all went down while she was pregnant, but the daughter doesn't seem to have been affected either, so I'm not sure why they decided to make that a point. It's being written by Marc Guggenheim.
  5. It's a WWII battleship drama written by and starring Tom Hanks. It's based on The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester. Shortly after the US enters the war, Hanks is a Commander on his first wartime assignment, in charge of an escort fleet protecting a merchant convoy. They're being stalked by U-Boats. And he is also battling his own self-doubts and personal demons. Originally due to hit cinema on 21 June, it's just been nabbed by Apple for their TV+, because the virus has made a balls of cinema plans. No firm date yet, but apparently "soon".
  6. https://deadline.com/2020/04/transformers-animated-movie-paramount-hasbro-toy-story-4-director-josh-cooley-1202921100/ Paramount are doing an animated Transformers movie revolving around the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron on Cybertron. It's not directly related to the live action franchise. It'll be directed by Toy Story 4's Josh Cooley and written by Ant-Man and The Wasp writers Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari.
  7. The Venom sequel has a name now. Venom: Let there be Carnage. And it's been pushed back from 2 October this year to 25 June 2021, taking the date vacated by The Batman yesterday. As had been stated in the original movie thread, Andy Serkis is directing. Tom Hardy back as Eddie Brock/Venom and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady/Carnage.

    Connected

New movie from Sony Pictures Animation. Written and directed by Mike Rianda and Jeff Rowe, from Gravity Falls, and produced by Lord and Miller. Story is about the family daughter going to college, so they make a road trip of it. But then the machines rise up. Voices include Danny McBride, Abbi Jacobson, Maya Rudolph, Olivia Colman and Eric Andre.
  9. May as well start a thread as it's now got a name. And as mentioned in the JW2 thread, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum are back, along with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Colin Trevorrow back directing, with shooting started yesterday. Currently set for release on 11 June 2021.
  10. Videogame movie incoming from Lionsgate. Eli Roth directing. Craig Mazin wrote a screenplay.
  11. Martin McDonagh's next movie will be The Banshees Of Inisheer. He's teaming up with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson again. Inisheer is a real island off the west coast of Ireland (the shipwreck in the Father Ted opening credits is there).
  12. Jumanji producers are developing a sci-fi movie based on the Emerson, Lake & Palmer song Karn Evil 9. Daniel H. Wilson has been hired to adapt the screenplay. https://deadline.com/2020/02/radar-pictures-develop-emerson-lake-palmer-song-karn-evil-9-film-1202859799/
  13. Obviously it's got a big cast, many familiar to his movies. The titular French Dispatch is a collection of stories from an outpost of an American paper in a fictional French city.
  14. This time it's Sony. But it's already a write-off. Corden is in it. It's a musical comedy starring Camila Cabello as Cinderella. Minnie Driver is Queen Beatrice and Missy Elliott in talks to play the town crier. John Mulaney, Romesh Ranganathan and James Corden are mice/footmen. Also stars Pierce Brosnan, Billy Porter, Idina Menzel, Nicholas Galitzine, Maddie Baillio and Charlotte Spencer.
  15. Of course they're not stopping. And this time they've got Robert Zemeckis directing and co-writing.

    Free Guy

https://deadline.com/2019/12/free-guy-trailer-ryan-reynolds-shawn-levy-joe-keery-20th-century-fox-1202803053/ Ryan Reyonds plays a background NPC, Guy, in an open world videogame, Free City, who decides to take control of his life after being surrounded by videogame mayhem for 27 days straight. Directed by Shawn Levy. I like the opening text poking fun at the studio's new owners.
  17. A third sequel rather than a reboot. Josh Gad plays Wayne Szalinski's son. He follows in his father's footsteps by becoming a scientist. And accidentally shrinking his kids. Joe Johnston, director of the original (but neither other sequel), is in talks to return. They were originally considering doing this for Disney+, but the suits reckon it's worthy of a theatrical run.
  18. Oh shit son Not much to report on what the movie is about. Just that they're in final talks with Noah Hawley, of Fargo and Legion, to write and direct. This suddenly could be interesting.
  19. Universal and Blumhouse are doing a new version. Written and directed by Leigh Whannell. Starring Elisabeth Moss (Cecilia Kass) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (a brilliant scientist who she is trapped in an abusive relationship with). After Kass escapes the abusive relationship, he kills himself. In his will, he leaves her $5 million, contingent on her not being ruled mentally incompetent. Cue her being tormented by an invisible man, making her seem crazy. Due on 27 February.
  20. https://deadline.com/2019/10/nicolas-cage-star-genre-thriller-wallys-wonderland-haunted-amusement-park-1202771823/ Maybe a movie fitting of Cage. He plays a janitor in a twisted amusement park where the threatening animatronics come to life one night and he has to fight his way through them to survive until morning.
  21. Blomkamp's next movie is Inferno, starring Taylor Kitsch. He plays a cop who is called to investigate a murder in New Mexico. He suspects something bigger, possibly extraterrestrial, and comes face-to-face with a humanoid beast who is out to kill the only witness to the crime.
  22. The follow up to Murder on the Orient Express, with Kenneth Brannagh as Poirot. Coming in October 2020. Cast has been announced, including French & Saunders together again.
  23. https://deadline.com/2019/09/micro-budget-uk-sci-fi-20-years-in-the-works-gets-distribution-deal-1202746366/ https://www.invasionplanetearth.com/ 20 years ago, Simon Cox wanted to make a movie. Spent some time writing and trying to raise funds before going the crowdfunding route. Now it's finally done, after 6 years of shooting and 2 years of post production. It's being released in December. It was shot around Birmingham, including what appears to be a large scale battle scene in the city with 900 extras. Not exactly new ground as far as story goes; aliens harvesting humans. But I'm certainly willing to give a guys two decade passion project a go.
  24. A new one from Disney Animation. Raya is from a world named Kumandra, which is in peril. She goes on a quest to find the last dragon, to save her world. Sounds like she finds the dragon early, but the dragon, Sisu, is in human form and needs Raya's help to regain her power and become a proper dragon. The culture, design, etc. is supposed to be very south-east Asian. Apparently a bit of Hong Kong action movie vibe too. Cassie Steele is Raya and Awkwafina is Sisu. Adele Lim writing. Coming around Thanksgiving 2020.
  25. Coming on 19 June 2020. About a middle-school jazz teacher, Joe, who dies and goes to the You Seminar, a place where souls are made into individuals. (?) Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross doing the score Directed by Pete Docter Joe - Jamie Foxx Joe’s mother - Phylicia Rashad Joe’s nemesis - Daveed Diggs 22, a helpful soul - Tina Fey Curly, a drummer - Questlove
