  1. Looks like Marvel will explore more of the cosmic stuff in Phase 4. They've hired writers, Matthew and Ryan Firpo, to adapt the Eternals comic. Apparently, they're so hot right now.
  2. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a552739/lovefilm-instant-to-become-amazon-prime-instant-video.html I used to be with Lovefilm, but left when they stopped renting games. At the time their streaming video service was nice as an added bonus on the subscription, but not something I'd have paid for on its own due to a poor library and apps only available on a very limted number of devices with rubbish update support. Not sure if this will tempt me away from Netflix, their original programming (House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Arrested Development) blow away Amazon's rather uninspiring efforts in that area and without the introductory offer it's actually more expensive than Netflix (only by about £7 but still). The main argument for that price is the Amazon Prime delivery which i wouldn't particularly want. Still, more competition is good for us customers, not sure I'd want to be subscribed to two streaming services, but if they significantly improve their library I might take a look eventually.
  3. It's moving ahead, being written right now, and with Maverick back in full force, rather than the initial plan for him having a small role. It's going to explore how navy aviation is changing, with dogfighting all but gone and the rise of drones. Hopefully not a remake of Stealth. It's being written by Justin Marks, whose theatrical movie credits include Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and...that's it. He's got other stuff in pre-production, but what's released isn't a great record to judge him by. Given the videogame heavy nature of the forum, I'll just mention he's also going to potentially ruin Shadow of the Colossus and Dead Space.
  4. Those maniacs. They're doing another. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg. I've still not seen The Predator.

    Furiosa

The Mad Max spin-off is happening. It'll be set before Fury Road, showing her origins. Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead role, with Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also in.
  6. After Aladdin became the first of these to crack a billion, they're getting Guy Ritchie back to do this one. Because I'm sure it was Guy who made that happen, not that it had pre-scandal Will Smith and was Aladdin. https://deadline.com/2022/06/hurcules-guy-ritchie-live-action-movie-disney-aladdin-1235047935/
  7. https://deadline.com/2022/06/top-gun-maverick-joseph-kosinski-formula-one-movie-brad-pitt-1235048186/ Joseph Kosinski is promising the same level of in-camera realism he brought to Top Gun Maverick. It stars Brad Pitt as as a retired F1 driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a rookie. Pitt is also producing, along with Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton says he doesn't plan to appear on screen. Or not as an actor anyway. They will be needing drivers to help capture the footage. All the big players were bidding on the project, but Apple got it in the end. They promise it will get a proper theatrical release before it goes on Apple TV+.
  8. It's got a release date of 22 July 2022, but not yet any information about the story Cast include Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Barbie Ferreira and Brandon Perea.
  9. May as well start a thread as it's now got a name. And as mentioned in the JW2 thread, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum are back, along with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Colin Trevorrow back directing, with shooting started yesterday. Currently set for release on 11 June 2021.

    Barbie

WB and Mattel are doing a Barbie movie. Though it might be a bit different than you would expect. There's no plot details, but it'll be directed by Greta Gerwig and set to star Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. https://deadline.com/2021/10/ryan-gosling-ken-warner-bros-barbie-margot-robbie-1234858848/ While we wait, have this
  11. There were early indications of a sequel already, but now a third too, with Netflix reportedly paying $400m+ for them. Craig and Johnson both returning. https://deadline.com/2021/03/knives-out-two-sequels-netflix-400-million-plus-deal-daniel-craig-rian-johnson-ram-bergman-1234724575/
  12. Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank, Kidding) is set to direct Thunderbolts. I wasn't familiar, but it seems to be Marvel's version of Suicide Squad, with a team of villains tasked with government missions. No word on who may be in the team, but I'm sure everyone will have ideas. Zemo and US Agent have got to be there though, right? https://deadline.com/2022/06/marvels-thunderbolts-jake-schreier-1235041619/

    Cruella

Another origin story. Emma Stone stars as Estella, a grifter in 70s London. Coming to...cinemas?...on 21 May.
  14. The follow up to Murder on the Orient Express, with Kenneth Brannagh as Poirot. Coming in October 2020. Cast has been announced, including French & Saunders together again.
  15. Prequel time, also based on the prequel book. Coming 17 November 2023. It's about Coriolanus Snow when he was 18. His family lineage is falling from grace, but when he is assigned a girl tribute for the 10th Hunger Games, he sees a chance to turn the situation around. Will he succeed? Yes, he will, because the other movies have already been out. There's a teaser, but it's just some CG leading to a logo rather than containing any footage.
  16. A Netflix movie based on a YA series of novels. The school of the title is a school to train kids to be fairy tale heroes and villains. Both sides, to keep balance. Two girls who believe they are a natural fit for good and evil respectively find themselves being put on the opposite side than they expected. As well as the girls played by Sofia Wylie and Sophia Anne Caruso, it stars Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Laurence Fishburne and Michelle Yeoh. Directed by Paul Feig. Coming in September.
  17. The Russo Brothers $200m action movie for Netflix. Stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Chris Evans dodgy moustache, Jessica Henwick, Ana de Armas, Wagner Moura, Dhanush, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, Regé-Jean Page, Julia Butters, Eme Ikwuakor and Scott Haze. Gosling is The Gray Man, a CIA merc who uncovers something he shouldn't. So Evans, a CIA former colleague, has to hunt him down. Based on a series of books, they hope for it to begin a movie franchise. Coming to Netflix on 22 July
  18. https://deadline.com/2022/03/the-sea-beast-karl-urban-jared-harris-dan-stevens-set-for-netflix-film-1234990992/ Netflix CG animation from Chris Williams of Moana and Big Hero Six. Starring the voices of Karl Urban, Zaris-Angel Hator, Jared Harris, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Dan Stevens and Kathy Burke. Beasts inspired by the creatures on 16th and 17th century maps. Coming on 8 July.
  19. Of course they're not stopping. And this time they've got Robert Zemeckis directing and co-writing.
  20. Continuing their live action remakes of animated features, they've announced some main cast of Aladdin. Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine and Will Smith as the genie. Smith had been rumoured for the role. Guy Ritchie directing.
  21. To coincide with Criterions new site launch (you can now download their films for $5 and if you decide to buy the DVD as well you get the rental fee back) they have launched a new social networking site for film fans that also has free films to watch. The list is pretty small at the moment but it does have my all time favourite Japanese film - After Life. http://www.theauteurs.com/
  22. Next movie, after Lightyear, has been announced. Due 16 June 2023. Directed by Peter Sohn of The Good Dinosaur and the Partly Cloudy short. Set in a city where fire, air, land and water people live together. The man characters are Ember and Wade. Fire and water people, if it was too subtle for you. The water and fire pair are about to discover how much they have in common. No teaser or anything yet, just a title and concept picture.
  23. https://deadline.com/video/three-thousand-years-of-longing-trailer-idris-elba-tilda-swinton-george-miller-cannes/ Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba star in this fantasy romantic drama from George Miller. Swinton is Dr. Alithea Binnie, a scholar who picks up an interesting object in Istanbul. Elba is a djinn who comes from that object and grants her three wishes. Certainly looks interesting
  24. https://deadline.com/video/spiderhead-trailer-miles-teller-jurnee-smollett-chris-hemsworth-netflix-pic/ Thor hasn't beheaded Spider-Man. Netflix darkly comedic psychological thriller directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett. Set in an island prison run by Hemsworth's Steve Abnesti, where inmates have a device surgically attached which administers mind altering drugs, in exchange for reduced sentences. Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick adapted the script from a short story. Coming on 17 June.
  25. Michael Bay's remake of Danish movie Ambulancen. Stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza Gonzalez, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Garret Dillahunt. Gyllenhaal and Abdul-Mateen play military veteran friends. Abdul-Mateen's wife needs surgery, so Gyllenhaal brings him on board a bank robbery to get him money to pay for it. Robbery goes wrong and they end up hijacking an ambulance to escape. Gonzales is the paramedic in the ambulance, which is also carrying one of the cops who responded to their bank robbery and got shot. Looks like Bay has finally discovered FPV drones for high speed action footage.
