  1. Wow, that blew me away. Absolutely pitch perfect in every way, imo. What a fantastic trailer, fucking bravo!
  2. I think it's very difficult to talk about frame rates now without prior experience and context of what was possible back in the 8 and 16 bit days. A good example is that new Amiga fps. It's a great achievement on a A500 but would you honestly want to play it at its current fps? I know I couldn't and I can still happily play BBC Elite and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe etc. However, its A1200 speed which looks nearer 20 (?) now we're talking. That's perfectly playable for me with no nostalgia driven experience. I suspect though that a player with no experience or enjoyment of older games would be able to put up with even the 1200s speed.
  3. This looks really lovely, fantastic stuff. Shout out to the decision to show it via CRT too. That does a fair bit of heavy lifting visually, giving it that lovely soft hue and glow.
  4. This was bloody good. Went in knowing very little, other than the basic setup and general gossip during filming, came away being thoroughly entertained and buzzy. It's basically a glorious homage to old Hollywood, ageing, friendship and a massive dollop of What If! Gleeful stuff. As a side note, the Bruce Lee scene was utterly harmless, the proverbial storm in a teacup, imo.
  5. Are there any Switch physical releases, other than Tetris 99, which include a 1 year online sub? I need to re sub but I'd rather grab a physical game than just the £17.99 an online sub I think it currently is. Tbh, I'm tempted to just get another copy of Tetris!
  6. This show really does deserve all the plaudits. Has it been mentioned how (imo) this is the perfect example of how to update a nostalgia based drama into a modern context? From female characters to masculinity to modern social values, it treads a line so wonderfully assuredly. Just a pure delight and proves you can do something like this and keep 'most' people happy. It's just damn hard and requires amazing writers.
  7. I thought this looks surprisingly good from the trailer. Can it capture the spirit of the those 80s and early 90s buddy cop films?
  8. I wasn't that fussed, but then they got me with the end. Hopefully therell be moree of that and it will actually go somewhere.
  9. As soon as that music comes in.. whoosh! Damn the nostalgia is strong. All in!
  10. I watched Prometheus a few times and that was a few too many, as far as I'm concerned. The downright stupidity of the characters, the depiction of exploration and the major beats of the movie, destroy any of the praise worthy stuff on show, imo.
  11. The deepfake stuff is really impressive now, isn't it. I kinda want a re release of Tron Legacy with it.
  12. I feel like the psychological effects of retro games is rarely mentioned but one which must surely chime with many. I get the same calming feeling when I look at my collection. And that's before checking out the boxes, going through manuals, leafing through magazines. Let alone playing the games themselves! It's obviously that connection to the past but there's something grounding about it. Physically being able to hold and puruse the objects, that has a deep effect on the mind, or my mind at least.
  13. 4K is a race to wasted potential and creativity, imo. Long may (and will) Nintendo rebuff the cries from the tiny minority of their players who feel like it will magically justify a new gaming system. DLSS offers a gentle path for Nintendo to support a form of 4K in the future, likely the Switch 2.
  14. They could have thrown me the money that that trailer cost to put together and I've have given them a proper new Contra.. or at the very least the first level of one!
  15. Thanks for the heads up on this, I'd not heard about it at all. Ordered a copy. Weird it's not mentioned on the foundations website anywhere. That I could see at least.
  16. This does indeed look absolutely lovely. I can't believe it's tech and art style haven't been influenced by The Last Night tho. That's not a problem btw, just an observation. Hopefully the gameplay can match the visuals.
  17. That's pretty great casting. Looking at that photo you can see where they're going. It's in the eyes and jawline. Stick some glasses on him and the wig and I think he'll look remarkable. Similar setup to Gillian when she was cast.
  18. They've seen sense, ie that they're leaving a lot of money on the table, and are canvassing for interest in another run of the CE. https://huntdown.com/physical/?fbclid=IwAR14idfT5GnrstC-wn7clKYNLG-lKFK21WHGStR-AY_e9QycB7mdRZKK5FI If you're interested in it please sign up! Personally I think it's the best CE I've seen, well, ever really. And absolutely worth the money if you can stretch to it and love physical.
  19. It does seem unusual doesn't it, given Nintendo's track record. Having said that, perhaps Mario's gw release has enabled Nintendo to calculate demand more accurately this time around? Meaning that the Zelda gw won't still be available for as long after its release and hence end up being available so cheaply.
  20. That's my issue with the CE release too. By creating so few copies the release just becomes a collectors investment. I read somewhere that copies are already up on eBay for 250 euro... Regarding it's price, I actually feel it's extremely generous, especially when you see the likes of Nintendo's Metroid Dread SE. You get a hell of a lot and you can see the love and passion that's been put into it. All of which makes the small print run even more baffling. They've done all that just for it to disappear into the hands of many non fans. A print run 3 times as big would have still sold out and all their hard work would have paid off financially and artistically, imo. It's a brilliant game btw. If you can snag it at discount it's worth it (That's my highest praise, since I only buy physical!) before the standard edition becomes available. I really hope they've made enough copies of those..!
  21. In some ways yes, but there's a lot to it once you get a game series that has brand recognition, imo. Essentially though, all games want to sell very well so there's nothing new there. Imo, making the Metroid game like some here would like, wouldn't sell well according to Nintendo's expectations. And that's the key, to THEIR expectations given their financial outlay. Many other developers and publishers would be overjoyed with the sales and praise that a hardcore Metroid would bring in. But Nintendo need big sales to fuel their brand. On this point, look at the Amazon sales charts currently, Dread is topping them all. Btw, I'm not saying I agree with Nintendo's stance. I've long advocated for a small, experienced, passionate 7-10 person team on a small budget, be given an IP like Metroid. If they were I guarantee you'd get the Metroid of your dreams.
