Do you prefer physical books or Ebooks?

I do love owning paper books but 99% of my reading is on kindle. I’ll buy the physical book and pirate the eBook via IRC of all things.

What are you reading at the moment?

I’ve been here - it’s a beautiful spot (now) and the memorial is wonderful while of course being very respectful and melancholy. Thanks for this post - it prompted me to look at some photos I haven’t viewed in years. I will check out those recommendations.

I'm glad that BJ is fighting Ryan Hall, as in someone who won't completely smash him up hopefully. That is a nice card though - I think I'm most looking forward to Nunes and Cyborg outside of my interest in JJ's return. It would arguably be better for the sport/promotion if Nunes could pull it off but I don't think so.

It'll probably be very similar to his Rumble fight, though DC will probably be hoping not to absorb a massive uppercut this time.

What are you reading at the moment?

The past month or so, continuing to work through my digital pile of shame on my kindle. Bird Box - it was pretty good - more interesting than enthralling for me personally. It was a nice change to feel, rather than see the horror through the narrator. Neuromancer - Honestly, I think I need to read this one again. I got completely lost once things really got going. I'll owe this to reading over some particular tiring weeks during an early morning commute. It deserves more care and attention that I was able to give it - it's really dense with interesting ideas and a lot of the tech and world can only really be understood via context in the setting. Despite not fully getting it, I still enjoyed the parts where I was really locked in. Them: Adventures with Extremists - I really disliked The Men Who Stare At Goats when it first came out, but I do like Jon Ronson, particularly in podcast form. This was weirdly fun as he hangs around with various extremists who believe in some form of global conspiracy. Some people in there I wasn't expecting (Ian Paisley) and others who have been knocking around for a surprisingly long time (Alex Jones). I think he does a good job of giving everyone a chance and allowing them to expose themselves in a Louis Theroux-like style. Frank - also by Jon Ronson. More of a long article really - it's a nice read about his time playing keyboards for Frank Sidebottom, some other marginal musical acts, the ideas behind the film and the death of Chris Sievey. I mostly remember Frank Sidebottom from TV as a kid, had no idea he was this Andy Kaufman type who became the character so some of these details were interesting.

A victory overshadowed by scummy behaviour. The guy who sucker punched McG should be facing assault charges. That was gross tbh. Khabib basically handed a moral victory to McGregor and completely undid his work in the fight in my eyes. Honestly, if the UFC stripped him and the commission suspended him, and McG fights Tony for “the” belt - would anyone be surprised? It would be a better scenario for the UFC.

I used to be able to get away with staying up late and sleeping into the afternoon, but with children, forget about it. I watch on Sunday AM, or if I'm woken up at 4am by a child, I might watch live if it's an event I'm really interested in. Also, just to give a mention as I enjoy it, I would recommend the Severe MMA podcast. The most recent episode below is co-hosted by Jeremy Botter. It's very Irish-centric (though not biased in favour of Irish fighters). I signed up to their Patreon and there's some great stuff on there in the lead up to this event. This week they have had subscriber-only podcasts with Ariel Helwani, Patrick Wyman and Luke Thomas which is pretty good for my $5.

I think if McGregor wins, it will be in round 1 or 2. If it goes beyond that, Khabib will probably win a UD. I'm rooting for Conor in all honesty - Khabib can go do one between being a personality vacuum, his nefarious ties, the video of him taunting the homeless, his backwards nonsense (how dare they have a rap concert in Dagestan) and so on. I know you'll kill me here, but his list of victories leading up to being the champ isn't exactly amazing - is 155lb RDA his best win if you consider the calibre of opponent? I know he's very good but I am not convinced yet - he strikes me as a throwback fighter who has one trick in the bag and is limited in other areas. However, that one trick has been good enough so far and arguably could be good enough to win here if he can avoid running in with his chin up.

    Netflix - Releases & Recommendations

First episode was interesting. I didn’t know anything before watching and I like the weird 80s futuristic past vibe that it has. Intrigued so far.

It stinks overall, but did you see the point that suggests Jones has turned informant in this situation? https://www.mmafighting.com/2018/9/19/17880798/jon-jones-given-15-month-suspension-after-arbitration-in-usada-case
