There is more text than in Super Mario Bros or World but you should be able get through the game ok. There are instruction boxes whenever a new mechanic is introduced which make up the bulk of the text so maybe reading an overview of the basic mechanics (egg laying/throwing) on gamefaqs should negate any issues you might have in understanding what to do. I've played through the first few worlds of the super famicom version recently and had no real issues understanding what was going on.

    Samurai Spirits/Shodown - 2019

The in game graphics look great, this is one of the two games I'm most looking forward to this year (Link's Awakening being the other)!

    Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Not that the series is on a Nintendo platform (is that a requirement for Smash characters?) but I'd love to see Kiryu and Majima from Yakuza in the lineup and think they could play quite well.

    Nintendo Switch

The game was surprisingly fun too. :p

I've given it a bash over the last couple of days and was surprised how sore my arms were this morning! It seems pretty decent.

    PlayStation Classic

Wow, so they probably actually put some extra work in to make it worse!

I've joined the cancelled preorder club, it was the PAL games running at 50hz that was final straw for me. I was holding out hope that they would just force them to run at 60hz but that doesn't seem to be the case.

    Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I spoke to the Nintendo stores customer services earlier, the collectors edition bundles are still being shipped out on time, it's just the stand alone adapters they are not supplying. I'm a bit annoyed as i preordered the adapter before the collectors bundles were available and now they are sold out on the store. I've cancelled the preorder for the adapter and the two controllers I had with them. I assume by "production issues" they just mean Nintendo UK haven't ordered/been given the stock or they've decide to use the stock for the collectors editions.

    Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I've just received this in an email from Nintendo: "Thank you for your recent pre-order of Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter for Nintendo Switch through the Nintendo Official UK Store. We are contacting you as the GameCube Controller adapter has been postponed until May 2019 due to unforeseen production issues. Please rest assured that once we have a confirmed launch date we will notify you and does not impact any other Super Smash Bros. Ultimate items you may have pre-ordered at the same time." May 2019 is a significant delay, I wonder if it will also effect the bundled editions with the game, adapter and controller in one box? I'll feel a bit put out if it doesn't as I pre-ordered before the bundle was available.

SD2SNES - using saves and in game hooks

I've not experimented much with any in-game hooks as I just downloaded a premade zip archive but to reset to the SD2Snes menu I have to hold the rest button for a few seconds until a light blinks on the SD2Snes cartridge. It too me a while to work this out as a quick press of the reset just resets the currently loaded game.

There's been no concrete statement that the games are running at 50hz yet though has there? If a game was released on PAL originally in an un-optimized state, i.e. slower and squashed aspect ratio, then if that version is forced to run at 60hz it should be identical to the NTSC version but also have a few more language options (which is the only reason I can think of why they are using the PAL versions in the first place).

Games you keep buying despite not liking them

Smash Bros for me too, I think I've bought everyone bar the 3DS version. The one I played the most was the 64 original because I was a kid and spent what was a lot of money to me at the time on it. Even then I didn't get it though. As the_debaser says the fighting just feels random and floaty to me to with too much chaos going on compared to something like street fighter which I actually enjoy. I always fall for the Nintendoness and videogame love-in nature of it though so will end up buying and not playing the switch version too (I'm telling myself I'll enjoy the single player portion of the switch version).
  13. I've been playing this a little bit the last few days, as a massive Samba De Amigo fan I'm not initially feeling as enamoured with this as I was with that game but maybe it will grow on me as I get better at it. So far the drum controller feels fine and responsive from my initial playtime with the game too.
  14. Snap, I received a message from my wife saying that a "big box" has arrived for me so hopefully that's Taiko waiting for me at home too.

I'm also a fan of Super Mario Kart vs the newer versions (though I do enjoy them too) and, to me, SMK captures the feeling of driving a go kart better than the more recent games. It's not just the shorter tracks (which I like) but I think there's a real magic moment in the handling at the point at which the kart in the game starts sliding, that feels so much like a go kart it's crazy. In SMK it feels like the karts don't have a differential just like a real go kart. In the newer games it feels like the karts all have differentials fitted and subsequently they feel like small cars rather than karts.
